Re: Matheny, Mabry gone

I had such a wonderful dream last night.  Then i woke up to find it reality.

I wonder where the pieces will land and who gets the gig.  I assume it is shildt untill the end of the year.  I would of heavily favored oquendo for a lot of different reasons but im not getting greedy.  Matheny is going and thats great.  I assume maddox will take a more prominent role in the pitching staff.  I also assume Clapp and/or Warner will be on the coaching staff before the 2019 season starts.

Re: Matheny, Mabry gone

I dont see girardi as an option the cards will seriously consider.  His outspoken behavior doesnt seem "cardinals way" material.  I think an internal candidate is more likely.  Clapp or warner i see as csrdinal type move.  Non splashy, known quality within org.  Oquendo has been passed over a few times.  Im disappointed he was appointed as interm.  The guy grabbed 2 WBC teams and did a great job with them.  Players on the team seem to respect his more then anyone.  And he gives me the feeling that he is about two seconds away from chewing ass at any moment.  Idk, maybe it is made up in my mind but he seems like a dad figure to me.  Someone who can get on the guys but they know he has their backs and wants them to succeed and dont want to disappoint him.  I also realize that appointing the bench coach is common practice.  Id just like to have seen what oquendo could do with the team in the next few months and apply that to the offseason manager search.

Re: Matheny, Mabry gone

From many comments I've read, it seems Oquendo didn't want it & prefers to be in the background.

Re: Matheny, Mabry gone

I thought they'd wait to do this until after today's loss.

Probably did it as a favor to matheny.  Now he can claim to of never had an under .500 season as a manager.

Re: Matheny, Mabry gone

Not much being said about this (here's something, though: https://sports.yahoo.com/why-cardinals-fired-mike-matheny-104506554.html). I've even been listening to the Pirates' broadcast from the start and, as of the mid-3rd inning, nary a mention. I'd have thought this event would be seen as fairly big news within the division.
