Vasgersian: "Matt Carpenter is so hot right now I don't think any team can shut him down."
Apparently, the Cubs and the Reds can. Carpenter has two hits in his last 20 at bats.

If you don’t have any insights on the game, talk about the Hall of Fame.

Carson Kelly is 3 for 3 tonight with a double. He’s now hitting .299.

I hope the eyeblack is keeping the sun out of Baez's eyes.

It's like listening to a 5th grader give a book report on a book he didn't read.

Sorry guys, but I can't focus on the Cards right now. I'm devastated by Trea Turner's and Sean Newcomb's offensive teenage tweets.

A couple of thoughts:
1.) I'm glad Twitter and Facebook weren't around when I was a senior in high school.
2.) My son is 18. He doesn't use racially-insensitive terms. If he did, he wouldn't be able to post them electronically because if I found out I'd break his fingers.
3.) Newcomb is from Middleboro, Massachusetts. Middleboro is located in the southeastern part of the state and before yesterday was mostly known the corporate headquarters of Ocean Spray, the company that makes cranberry juice. Which means this kid grew up in the middle of a bunch of cranberry bogs, and almost certainly without a great degree of sophistication.
4.) I can't speak for other parts of the country, but the terms "fag" and "gay" do not always have literal connotations for people who grow up in New England. "Fag" is more commonly used as a synonym for "wimp" or "coward," as in "Are you going to drink that shot of tequila or are you going to be a fag?" "Gay" has the same type of connotation, as in "Don't be gay. Drink that shot of tequila." I've probably used those words in those contexts on this board. I intend to stop immediately.

Without out making a big deal that leads to a political conversation my opinion is, big fucking deal. Why dig up old dirt from something they said as kids? People can change and people certainly shouldnt be defined by the mistakes a opinions they had in high school. God knows i dont want held to those same standard if thats the case.
As a disclaimer, i havent read the tweets or whatever. Nor do i know the age these guys were when they posted or their current age for that matter. Just going off the jist of what little ive read.

Idk in the midwest it seems calling someone gay or a fag is on the same level or worst then calling them a cocksucker. Of course context is important.

To make this issue even more ridiculous, a significant number of the "offensive" tweets posted by Newcombe, Turner and Hader were actually rap lyrics. So some 17 year old kid becomes a fan of Kanye or Drake and uses their lyrics to express how he feels and 5-6 years later someone uses that tweet to virtue signal.
Give me a break.

No shit.
BTW, AP, in the South and Southwest, cocksucker has long had a connotation different from that which it had in other parts of the country -- particularly the northeast. Of course, back 50 years or more, the paractice of oral sex on either gener was not quite as acceptable as it has become today (especially since Michael Douglas went public and the Clinton administration appended).

"especially since Michael Douglas went public and the Clinton administration appended"
You could have dropped the letter "L" from the word "public" and the sentence would have had the same meaning.

I am also thought I had typed "happened" instead of "appended."

I just assumed that was another legal term with which I am unfamiliar.

If I had included it in article or a brief, there is a good chance it would become one with every law clerk that ran across it pretending that he knows what I meant.
