8/6 GC

Bernie interviewed Schildt this morning.  I'm sure he didn't intend to take a shot at Matheny, but at one point, Schildt somewhat indirectly did.  Bernie asked him about his experiences growing up inside the game of baseball and learning from other managers, and Schildt made a comment to the effect that when he was around other managers, he realized that most of them knew a lot more about the game than he did, but when he watched them perform, he realized that many of them didn't communicate well enough with their players to impart the knowledge that they possessed.  Schildt said his philosophy was to communicate so that the players would always know and understand why he was doing something, and he went on to say that the players seemed to respond to his approach to communication.

Again, I don't think he was trying to take a shot at Matheny, but it's pretty consistent with what we've been hearing about Matheny being pretty closed off and not communicating.

I think he's got a shot.

I traded texts with Chad the other day.  He loves Schildt.  He said the increased communication has energized the team.  Coaches are being permitted to coach and everyone is receptive to the information being provided.  He said it's night and day from what it's been the past few years.

Re: 8/6 GC

About a week ago, I watched Shildt and Fouler talking while Fouler was waiting to go out onto the on deck circle and thought that was probably more than Fouler and Matheny talked since the end of spring training.

It's hotter here right now than it is in Miami.

Leave it to the Cardinals to win series from three above .500 teams and then lose to Miama and a soft tossing lefty with an ERA of 6

Thats good but not totally suprising.  Matheny had the cob in his ass look all the time.  And he want established enough to be a hardass know it all.

His regular turn was supposed to be on Sunday in Philadelphia, but his home and road splits are so dramatic Mattingly held him back a day so he could pitch at home.

You know it's hot when you start to sweat drying yourself off from the shower.

When I heard about the trade, I figured Lynn might flourish in New York because he's ornery enough to just go out and pitch and not give a fuck what anyone says or writes about him. It was odd watching Voit on Sunday night standing next to Stanton in the dugout. The Yankees also have Shane Robinson.

So did I. It looks like he's bounced around from the Twins to the Indians to the Angels to the Yankees, mostly playing in the minors.
