Huh...matt adams...why? We had him once. We have a few first baseman. In fact they traded his right handed clone to the yankees.
Cubs got Daniel Murphy

Don't the Cardinals already have a better left-handed hitting first baseman?

Guess it just cost them cash. Idk, odd

Murphy is a good snag for the Cubs. I'm guessing they'll put him at second and move Baez to short full-time at Russell's expense. You give up some defense, and their lineup tilts a little more to the left, but he gives a potent bat to a team that has had a hard time lately scoring runs.
If the Nashnils are holding a garage sale, I wonder what it would take to land Harper for six weeks?

Baffling. I guess it gives them a LH bat they didn’t have. Wisdom was sent back down
As much as Mags likes both Adams and Wisdom, he has to be seriously conflicted.

So adams is left handed thumper off the bench? Thats the purpose?

Yes. Or at least that’s what’s being said on the sports radio shows

I guess its a happy story, his return. I like him fine. Seems like a good dude. Wonder if he is a FA aftet this year. Id assume so or he wouldnt of been traded.

Trying to arrange the pieces into roster spots, I fear this doesn’t look good for Greg Garcia’s future with the Cards.

Depends on whether they activate Munoz before September 1

No word on how they plan to make a place for Martinez. My guess is that they will go with a short bench tonight and then send down a pitcher when Adams joins the team — probably someone they use tonight.

This weekend, I had read that Munoz was joining the team in LA and would be activated. Maybe that has changed.

Wisdom was sent down to make a place for Martinez. The current roster shows them with 14 pitchers and only 11 position players, so I think your guess is correct.
It’ll be interesting to see who they send down.
Starters
Mikolas
Flaherty
Gant
Gomber
Poncedeleon
Relievers
Hudson
Hicks
Norris
Weaver
Martinez
Ross
Mayers
Cecil
Shreve
Ross, Martinez and Weaver seem redundant. Personally, I’d send Weaver out to see if he can get right, but I guess it’ll be Mayers

I agree on sending weaver out. That should of been done shortly after the all star break.
I suppose this mean martinez is locked into right field, carp moves to third and adams play first vs rhp a lot.

I don’t think he’ll be a regular. It would be a bad move to put either Gyorko or Wong on the bench. Much less Carp anywhere but first.

Agreed, but they may do what AP suggests occasionally against RHP

Adams has a .882ops vs rhp. If he keeps hitting, i think that bat will play despite the defenive minuses of having carp at third.
If thats the case im curious how high adams bats in the lineup. Be interseting to break up the right handed heavy middle of the order.

That was my first thought.

I'm also factoring in that Tommy Edman has been playing well and hitting well at Memphis since being called up from Springfield, where he was also going well. He is a switch hitter who has been playing a lot at both Short and Second. I think he's always been projected as a utility infielder but he's making the case for being a very good one. He seems to be hitting better the higher the level. Between him and Munoz, I fear Garcia has become expendable.

It will be interesting as to the offseason decision. I dont see room for munoz, gyorko and garcia on the same roster. Garcia is left handed and thats a trait this team is lacking but i dont see the ceiling for him that munoz has.
The same decisions are going to have to be made in the outfield. It is still to crowded. Fowler has been playing his best of late. I rarely see him cost the cardinals a ball game anymore. I think they have finally found a role for him he is good at.
Early prediction....matt adams is on the 2019 roster
