I’ve never understood the fascination with a LH hitter who can’t hit versus a RH guy who can. I’d rather have Gyorko, O’Neill, Martinez and Munoz on the bench than have one of those guys replaced by a LH hitting Pete Kozma.I had not searched the new guy yet but this post doesnt give me good feelings. I was hoping the delscalso rumors were true.
In fairness, the guy they acquired has a little power, but in over 200 MLB at bats, he’s hitting .204 with 99 strikeouts.
I looked him up. Disinterested. Under sell on wisdom, imo.

Tough to undersell a guy with little to no value. He made it through Rule 5 last year and no one wanted him

I recently got an email from a Rangers fan who lives in Dallas and seems to think we got a decent prospect. But as best I can tell, this is primarily a good deal for Wisdom.

Unless you trade said person for a mendoza line hitter. Wisdom did actaully have a little luck in his major league stint.

Yeah, I'm not sure I get the logic behind this trade.

I think the logic is simple and can be summed up as "one man's trash is another man's treasure."
Robinson had no role in Texas and was taking up a 40 man roster spot. Wisdom had no role in St. Louis and was taking up a 40 man roster spot.
Robinson is LH and plays several positions, making him attractive to the Cardinals who are heavily RH. Texas' lineup is heavily LH, and Wisdom offers a RH option at first, third and DH. Currently those spots are filled by Gallo (LH), Profar (Switch) and Choo (LH)

OK, I worded that poorly. I guess what I don't understand is why you would give up a guy who seems to have some pop in his bat for a guy whose primary appeal is he is a left-handed hitter joining a team that has a dearth of left-handed hitters, especially since he may not evne end up on the major league club. Why not go out and get Chris Davis? Hey, he only hit .176 last year, but he's left-handed.
I've never been 100 percent on the Rule 5 thing. Was there a chance that the Cardinals could lose Wisdom, or did promoting him to the majors last year eliminate that possibility?

Once Wisdom was added to the 40 man roster, he was out of the Rule 5 draft, but he's a body on the 40 man roster who didn't have a role in St. Louis. The only way they could lose Wisdom is if they tried to pass him through waiver to take him off the 40-man.
I don't disagree with the basic premise of what you're saying. All I'm saying is that Drew Robinson is basically a LH hitting Patrick Wisdom who plays more defensive positions. Neither of them should be on the opening roster of this team.

Last sentence ill agree with completely. Robinson doesnt improve the team.

Lots of movement the past two days. The transactions include: Lance Lynn to Texas for three years, $30 million. Joe Kelly to the Dodgers for three years, $25 million. Andrew McCutchen to the Phillies. Reds trade for Tanner Roark. Jordy Mercer signs with the Tigers. Jordan Lyles to the Pirates. Billy Hamilton to the Royals.

I think he'd be a nice complementary player on a team with an elite offense to compensate for his inability to get on base. He's certainly as good as anyone in the league at his position, and he's a pest if he does manage to reach But he's never learned how to hit breaking pitches and durability has always been an issue. It's incredible he's never led the league in stolen bases.

The Kelly signing is troubling, not because he doesn’t deserve it, but because it sounds like the Cardinals are looking for someone cheaper and for a shorter term meaning they’re either going to sign someone shitty or trade J Martinez for a LH reliever.

I’ve seen nothing online confirming this, but on this morning’s show, Bernie reported that Fowler reportedly told the Cardinals he would be unavailable for the Winter Warm-Up. Meanwhile, he is scheduled to attend an autograph signing show in Chicago the weekend prior.
Again, I’ve read nothing confirming any of this, but if true, it’s pretty clear that Fowler wants out, and if he’s going to be a distraction, the team needs to simply release him and move on.

Cards take winter warm up stuff and attendance pretty serious.

Is there any truth to the rumor that the Cards have plans to provide free flashlight batteries as game souvenirs to fans sitting in the RF stands?

I'd be exceedingly happy if I never see Dexter Fowler in a Cardinals' uniform again. The Cardinals signed him as revenge for Lackey and Heyward, but the difference is Fowler is going to have one foot in Chicago for the rest of his life. I'd ordinarily say I hope the Cardinals just release him, but I'd be worried the Cubs would sign him and he'd become a productive player again. Even though it makes no sense for the Cubs to sign him because they have better, younger outfielders with Almora and Happ.
And, Dex, I understand you're friends with Riz and Bryant and Lester and Javy and all the other dudes with whom you won a World Series. But you're being paid a lot of money by another team in the same division that has a very devoted fan base. It would be nice if you at least acted like you wanted to beat them.

I think the cards will keep him till the all star break. That will be their deadline. At any time along the way if he becomes tradable they will do so, no matter how little they get.

It looks like someone in the organization had a conversation with Dex
"Fowler originally planned to travel to a friend's wedding in Mexico next month, on the same weekend as Winter Warm-up, and miss the annual fanfest for the third consecutive year. After discussions this weekend with his wife, he altered those plans and notified the Cardinals that he will attend the Warm-up. Part of a commitment, shared."

It's nice that Fowler seems to be optimistic about his situation, and I hope he has a bounce-back year.
I wish Goold had asked: "How much do you think not hitting in your customary leadoff position - where you batted on a team that won a championship - because you were moved down in the order to accommodate the proclivities of another player has impacted your performance since you've been with the Cardinals?"
But, hey, at least now we know how proficient Dex is at karaoke.

You'll get to see him about 19 times a year. He just signed with the Cubs.

He will probably hit .500 against the cardinals. I think he hit 13hrs last year. In a little league park like Wrigley he could hit 20 plus.
