Miller with a far more economical 8-pitch inning, though he did yield a single.

A Pedro Alvarez sighting!
Watch, he'll hit a home run, because he's, ya know, facing the Cardinals.

Alvarez walks, goes to third on a double and scores on what one would assume was a deep sacrifice fly.
Marlins 2, Cardinals 1, end 6.

4-1, final.
A non-roster invitee named Mike Hauschild coughed up two runs in the eighth.
When do we start to worry about the seemingly anemic offense?

I'm glad they appeared on whatever device you're using. You deserved all 10.

I've been preoccupied with the Boston Bruins and the Arizona State men's basketball team, but I'll be able to focus on the Cardinals starting Sunday. The Bruins' sieve of a goaltender - and if you think I dislike Matt Carpenter, he's my hero compared to Tuukka Rask - apparently looked at a calendar, saw the playoffs are approaching are turned to pudding again, so I won't have to worry about them.
ASU's season ends if the Sun Devils don't win the Pac 12 tournament - which they won't. ESPN has decided this is a "down year" for Pac 12 and it will only get one bid to the NCAA tournament, at the expense of the 44 teams from the ACC which will be selected by the committee.

I try not to get to worked up be spring training numbers because you never know what a hitter or pitcher is trying to do. I remember one year Scott Rolen hadn't had a hit, and he then revealed that for a certain number of at-bats each spring he didn't swing the bat because he simply wanted to watch pitches and work on his pitch detection. I remember one game where Wainwright threw something like 90% curveballs because he wasn't happy with how he'd been throwing the pitch.
With that said, they have something like 10-11 game against Milwaukee in the first month of the season. They could easily put themselves in a huge hole in the division if they aren't ready when the season begins.

For those of you who aren't watching the game or taping it for later, Wacha has thrown five scoreless innings so far. The Cardinals' offense, however, has managed one hit, an infield single by Bader, so far off Hall of Famer Zach Wheeler.

You're beginning to remind me of the Sally Kellerman version of Hot Lips.

Thankfully, I don't know what Artie looks like so my mental image of Sally Kellerman remains unadulterated.

Too bad the Cards didn't need another outfielder:
"Acquired last summer from the Cardinals in exchange for outfield prospects Conner Capel and Jhon Torres, Mercado was known for his speed and his defensive ability but has impressed the big league staff with his offensive performance this spring. He's hitting .400/.400/.771 with three homers in 35 at-bats."

I was going for Russ Hodges, but a lot of people get those two personalities confused.

It's been awhile since I last saw the movie but I was thinking that the guys who thought Hot Lips was a natural had to pay up.

Maybe, but I'm not googling that on my work computer.

The Cardinals are about to be no-hit by the Marlins.
