This has pretty much been our Spring here on the East Coast. Ten degrees colder and it could snow.

The water is only warm enough to swim in July and August, and you have to deal with a lot of seaweed and rocks. But I really like living near the water. We take the dog down to the beach and let him run around, on the weekend we sometimes we go down to the restaurant that's right off the water and have lunch or an ice cream at night.
I have really good memories of spending entire summer days at the beach on Cape Cod with my grandmother when I was a kid. We used to clam - yes, that's a verb - and then my grandmother would make a huge pot of steamed clams for dinner.
But as an adult I'm wound way too tight to just go down to the beach and spend eight or 10 hours there.

Sometimes it is better when your avenue for relaxation isnt close to home. Then when you choose to partake it is all you can do. No temptation to return home and accomplish something.

The problem around here with going anywhere is traffic. There's an old joke that it takes you an hour from Boston to get to Boston. But it's not necessarily false. Depending upon the time of day and how far your have. There are some nicer beaches about 10 miles north of here, but you're so stressed from sitting in your car for so long, by the time you unwind it's time to go home.
