Feels like it might as well be 40-0, doesn't it?

Yeah or worst.  This season is over.  It was better than i thought it would be but i hope winning the division doesnt cloud the issues this team has.

It might as well be.

If there’s a glimmer of a silver lining, maybe this shines a light on how flawed they really are. They tried to sell the public on the idea that Fowler had a “resurgence.”   He hit .238.

The GM decided to give Carpenter an extension. He hit .226.

They want to sell Paul DeJong as an “all-star” SS. He hit .233.

The first baseman needs to be better. The second baseman has improved, and might be the most exciting player on the team. If not Wong, then it’s probably Tommy Edman, but who knows if he’s legit. Ozuna hit .240 and won’t be brought back. The catcher is a year older and his offense is fading.

They won by playing pretty good defense, because Wainwright was a lot better than anyone expected and because the Cubs became a dysfunctional mess. But it’s a team that’s very flawed and in need of a significant upgrade. It won’t get it because now the urgency is gone, but it badly needs the same help it needed at the trade deadline.

Am I a bad person if I'm kind of hoping Cabrera drills Soto in the ribs?

Too reminiscent of the 2004 WS. After a close Game 1 loss, they just didn't seem competitive. Of course, that was a team with much higher expectations than this one.

I was thinking about the '04 team this morning. My only lament is how much different things would have been if Carpenter had been able to pitch in the post-season. He was 6-1 after the All-Star break, and the one loss was a 1-0 defeat to the Reds. His ERA was 2.13 in August, and he was clearly becoming the dominant pitcher he would be in 2005.
If Carpenter is healthy, the NLCS doesn't go seven games, and he pitches at least twice in the World Series.

Re: NLCS Game 3

I had forgotten about Carpenter's absence that post-season. Think I buried as much of that memory as possible.
