Really. The third base umpire has about a half-dozen calls to make in three hours, and he fucks up one of them. And it costs the Cardinals a run. What the fuck is he looking at? Fucking jerk.
That is a call that isnt normally made unless it is really really clear.

Alfonso Soriano must be one of the dumbest players to ever wear a major league uniform. You'd think after about a dozen years of playing professional baseball that he would have learned to lay off that slider on the outside corner. I don't think I've ever seen him ever make contact on a breaking ball on the outer two-thirds of the plate. I'm even not sure I've ever seen him hit the ball to right field.
I am watching the Cubs feed because it is in HD. When Soriano fell down Brently said he just slipped. What really happend was he totally misread the ball and broke in. When he figured out the ball was going over his head he tried to stop. I am not sure I have ever seen anyone miss read a ball that bad. He didnt just take one bad step. He broke in on a ball that landed 5 feet behind him.

I like what Punto has brought to the team so far. He plays hard, and his defense is solid. He's obviously limited offensively, and he's got almost no power, but he battles through every at bat.
Way to hold onto the ball, Hill. You dick. I guess the dirt around the batter's box at home plate is too hard tonight.

Ball hit right at you is hard to judge, but you're right. If anything, your first step is back.
I don't think I've ever heard Brenly criticize a Cub. I think he learned from Steve Stone that it's not good for job security.

I have never seen so many flares and bloops drop in for base hits. This is getting absurd.

Why in the world are they pitching to Castro when they've got a .133 hitter the Cubs can't pinch-hit for in the on deck circle?

I'm confused as to why Batista's in this game, and how he got two consecutive outs.

Everytime he takes the mound I expect the worst but he has been nails.

Quade must really love Tony La Russa's over-managing.

I swear, if Sanchez keeps getting squeezed like he did last week, I'm driving to Wrigley and dickpunching someone.

"dickpunching"
Yet another term to which a denizen of this board has enlightened me.

That was weird. I just got audio from Shannon and Kasper simultaneously. And it's the FSMW feed.

You'll have the urge to do it a lot more now.

That walk was uncalled for. He has to throw strikes there even if it is right down the pipe.

I hate it when the game isnt offered in HD. It just inst the same. I will put up with brenly explaining how Pujols 4 hit day wasnt good or how Holliday is going to go into a tailspin because of his leg kick. Never mind that he is hitting damn near .400. The picture was much clearer.

I got the game on HD. That baseball network you don't get carried the FSMW feed tonight. I guess they couldn't afford to send one of their three dozen analysts to Chicago.

Hrabosky mentioned he seems to be fine until he needs to get the last out of the game. But you're right. Even if Pena could still catch up to his fastball, who cares? Throw it down the middle. A home run is practically the same as a walk in that situation.
Lincecum is working on a no-hitter. His stuff is just nasty tonight.

that sums it up, that and 'the friendly confines'. if all a ballpark is supposed to be is a friendly ivy-covered place where the home team is never accountable, then what can you expect but 100+ years of futility and a park full of disappointed, but friendly, fans.

Wow, a sign of the times, and how I am not in them. I don't think I've ever seen broadcast television in HD . . . ever. Have an HD TV at home, but have never bothered to get the right cables to see it in HD.

There were a few boos directed toward Soriano. And there were more empty seats last night than I'd seen in years. It looked like 2-3 sections in the upper deck in left field were almost completely empty. The Cubs have been ascribing some of their attendance issues on the weather, but last night was warm and the game was against their most prominent rival.
Fewer people are going to baseball games, and I'm not sure it's entirely due to the weather or the economy.

Once you watch a game in HD, you'll never want to go back.
Tonight's game is on ESPN. The EI alternative is the Chicago feed. I'll probably watch ESPN until the bottom of the seventh, and tune in to EI to hear Len and Bren interview whichever D-list celebrity has just led the crowd in "Take Me Out To The Ballgame."
"Soooo ... Guy Fieri, how long have you been a CubFan?"
"Duuuude. My whole life. I bleed Cubbie blue."
"What do you think of their chances this year?"
"If Kerry Woods can win 20 games, they have a shot ..."

I'd say the Bulls had a lot to do with last night's attendance issue.
