CHICAGO -- With one exception, the Cardinals tonight send out the same lineup that took down the Chicago Cubs 6-4 on Tuesday.
Still on medical leave but not completely severed from the team's pulse, manager Tony La Russa dictated a lineup featuring catcher Gerald Laird as the only change from Tuesday. Laird carries a 3.41 catcher's ERA into his ninth start.
Starter Yadier Molina sits on a .282 average with seven doubles and 15 RBI in 103 at-bats. He clearly appears to be benefiting from more regular breaks.
Jake Westbrook attempts to extend his run of positive starts after holding the Florida Marlins to three runs in 6 1/3 innings on May 5. Westbrook struck out eight in that outing. Westbrook has won both career starts against the Cubs -- one at Wrigley Field and one at Busch Stadium. A win tonight would give the Cardinals seven series win in their last eight.
The Rest:
Cardinals
SS Ryan Theriot
CF Colby Rasmus
1B Albert Pujols
LF Matt Holliday
RF Lance Berkman
C Gerald Laird
2B Nick Punto
3B Daniel Descalso
P Jake Westbrook
Cubs
Fukudome RF
Barney 2B
Byrd CF
Ramirez 3B
Pena 1B
Castro SS
Soriano LF
Hill C
Garza P

This will be the toughest game of the series.

Gerald Laird just took the worst at-bat of the season. That was ugly.

This would be an appropriate time to mention that Jake Westbrook sucks.

I sure do hate Wrigley.

I didnt think thay ground rule double went into the stands.

Laird is ugly. And bald. The 2011 Cardinals may be the baldest team in the history of baseball.

They never really showed a conclusive replay, did they?

He only sucks when he refuses to throw strikes. This lineup for the Cubs should be easy to pitch to. Throw out Soriano, and what have they got, seven homers? Eight? He's trying to keep the ball in the ballpark against guys who can't hit it out.

I'm at Bob's game and can't watch. Is it raining, or is it delayed due to falling chunks of concrete?

Yesteday, mlb.com failed completely. Today I was able to login, but it remains an open question as to whether bandwidth issues will allow me to see anything close to a watchable game.

ugh. lemme guess. manager put westbrook back out there after a rain delay.
bad move. would have been better to have given batista a fair shot ait.
next, why motte in the 3rd? does he need work, or something?

Franklin picks up where he left off.

Clever trick by Franklin to erase Fukudome from second. I am sure that he will restore the boss's confidence with more innings like that.

Rec. They went to commercial after the top of the third and when they came back it was pouring.

Call me crazy, but I think your bigger priority is still hot water.

the cubs feed is insufferable. was that brenly telling the story about bobby jones that was so stupid that the play-by-play announcer had to cut him off? who are these guys?

"manager put westbrook back out there after a rain delay."
It took like a dozen pitches for the Cubs to do all that damage to him.

thank god i figured out how to switch feeds.

He wanted to pitch. Here ya go, big guy. Keep it under two dozen runs.

"who are these guys?"
That would be the Len & Bren Show. Kasper is a dope, and Brenly is a jerk who has hated the Cardinals for the past 30 years.

it's such a risky move to put the pitcher back out there. maybe because larussa ain't around the coaches aren't willing to step too far outside the standard playbook.

what better time to prove to ryan franklin that he doesn't have it than when we are already losing 6-1? i say leave him in there until he throws in the towel.

Garza seemed to be OK with it.

in the village, yes. but the water can usually get up to at least 'warm' in the hotel.
but as it is, the boss says its time to work.
what a shitty game to get treated to.
