"Pujols 3b"
I'm not sure this makes the Cardinals better defensively, but we'll see.

I think it is stupid. Pujols is already having a rough year. Why do whis now? I would rather put Craig at third and Berkman at right.

If Craig is so big of a liability at third base that it has become necessary to play Pujols at third, then Craig has no business on this team. And where is Tyler Greene in all of this? Punto was signed to be the back up third baseman. Why not Punto at 3rd and Greene at 2nd (or Greene at SS and Theriot at 2B).
They better hope Pujols doesn't do something stupid playing third and injure himself. I know he hasn't been playing all that well, but this team goes straight into the shitter if he misses a significant amount of time. IMO, this is really a stupid move.

They are giving up defense to get offense again. They are trying to get 3 first baseman in the same lineup without the DH. I would not play Pujols any place but first. He is havig troubles at the plate and I dont think he needs to focus on playing a position he hasnt played in years. I would put Craig back at second and put Punto at third before I would do what TLR is doing.

How weird.

Normally I'd say bunting in the first inning is stupid, but going against Cliff Lee, you better take advantage. And now Pujols can't hit into a double play.

I don't think Craig is ready for Cliff Lee.

The call at second on the steal was wrong, but does Westbrook have to work from behind in the count on almost every wingle batter? This isn't a very good lineup. Throw strikes.

Exactly what I was thinking. He missed the first two changeups by about a foot.
Anyone else have a feeling they missed the only chance they're going to get against Lee tonight?

This strike zone is awful tonight. Westbrook is getting screwed big time.

well, look-ee here. cards have lee in a jam.
mlb.com does not have the bandwidth at the moment, but i love opening the box score to see bases loaded and no outs. can westbrook help his cause?

struck out looking?!? for christsake close your eyes and swing for the fences.

They tagged the mighty Cliff Lee for three runs. That was a really, really good effort.
Also, I think they found their new third baseman.

The bullpen cannot, I repeat, CANNOT lose this game. You don't get many chances to hang a "L" on Lee. They're winning because of two out hits by Theriot and Jay, with Punto contributing the other RBI.
Even though Lee wasn't very good, he kept this game close. The bullpen better fucking close this game out and end this losing streak.

Punto did his part on defense. That was refreshing.

Ibanez and Howard to start the 9th. I'm guessing Miller comes in. He better be able to get a couple of outs.

That is a risky call. It really boast the lineup but if Pujols gets hurt you are in trouble. It was to long ago that his elbow was a huge worry. Does it not matter now that he is going to be a free agent? That is the only thing I can come up with or else this would have been done sooner. Thirdbase has been an issue since Glaus left.

If it is the 9th inning and the Cardinals have a lead Jay needs to be in the game. I dont care what field he is in. He is the best outfielder on the team.

You forget AP. God healed Pujols' elbow.
Looky there. A 1-2-3 ninth. Been a while since we've seen that.

He doesn't have a wipeout pitch, but he throws strikes. You're a good man, Fernando Salas.

Lee didn't like it either. It was all over the place. Nice work by Westbrook. I always had the sense the big inning was coming, but without Utley and Victorino in the lineup and Werth in Warshington, this isn't the same Phillies we're used to. They were a little too careful with Howard for my liking, but his numbers in St. Louis indicate they have every right to be cautious.

He swung at a 2-0 up around his eyes and nearly put himself in the hospital, so he wasn't doing that again.
I think there was one out when Westbook was at the plate, because the inning ended when Yadi was out at the plate on Theriot's single.
