"i'm glad that lohse's performance on the field gives him the cache to get away with his off the field antics, which i have enjoyed. but i recall this past year some grousing from fans when lohse spoke out on some public issue/controversy"
I remember Lohse saying something, but I don't remember who/what it was about. There's a line from Bull Durham that sums it up well: "When you win 20 games in The Show and have fungus on your shower shoes, the press will think you're colorful. But until you win 20 in The Show, you're just a slob."

that's the case with everything, pretty much. but in our hearts, most of us hope that the message is more important than the messenger.

just out of curiosity, why isn't rasmus playing? bad hair day?

Good trivia question on the SD feed tonight: Two MLB managers have won at least 500 games with three different teams. La Russa is one. Who is the other?

just read this:
C Gerald Laird (broken right index finger) was injured May 22. He was placed on the disabled list May 23 and will be out until July.
3B David Freese (broken left hand) went on the 15-day disabled list May 2. He had surgery May 3, and he is expected to be out until mid- to late July.
August before we are even close to Wainwright-less full strength. With those losses, and with Pujols sucking, if this team can remain on top it says an awful lot of the NLC.

From the ChatMeister:
"Center fielder Colby Rasmus sits in favor of Jon Jay. Rasmus is 0-for-12 on the road trip and appeared passive at the plate Monday, a day after accepting five walks in Kansas City. Jay is 8-for-19 on the road trip, including a 3-for-4 in Monday's 3-1 win."

Finally ... put the runner in motion toward second, THEN bunt the runner to third ...

so franklin needs to pitch but rasmus needs to sit?!?
maybe if holliday were in the lineup, but starting jay and craig in front of him is practically inviting a call to the dugout from Dad.

and then leave it up to theriot and jay.
there's one part of the plan that has a weakness.

I really jinxed the team before the game. This is a lousy effort.

Both of them are hitting ~.300. I'll take my chances with the infield in.
My American Legion coach, who is the best coach I ever had, used to do a bunt-and-run play with a runner on first and no outs. Runner breaks, batter lays down a bunt to third. Runner never breaks stride and keeps going around second. If the wheel is turning to the left, the second baseman has to make a throw across the diamond after running over to cover first, and if the wheel is turning to the right, the shortstop has to beat the runner and apply a tag on a throw that leads him to the bag. Every time the batter got the bunt down on the left side, it worked.

Brewers get a win gift-wrapped by the Senators' lousy bullpen.

Rasmus enters the game. Is Holliday even available?

Why is it that when we need a ball put in play Colby isn't the guy whose name leaps to mind?

I know a PH is the move here, but you hate to take out McClellan after six tonight.

Horton "the Padres are not a good defensive team at all."
Horton should be an expert on poor defense.

Just because it was nearly in the dirt doesn't mean it wasn't at Theriot's knees.
