5/30 Gamecrap

McClellan vs. Bumgarner

I believe the rest of the matchups are Carpenter vs. Vogelsong, Westbrook vs. Lincecum and Garcia vs. Sanchez.

St. Louis has no reason to not dominate this series on the mound because the Gnats lineup is weak. Now watch K-Mac get his tits ripped.

Re: 5/30 Gamecrap

Seems like the Gaints always have the Cardinals number.  Seeing these pitching matchups doesnt thrill me.  The Cards are going to have to hit during this series because any of those pitchers could shut them down.  The Gaints pitching staff might be the best in the league.

Re: 5/30 Gamecrap

Atlanta and Philadelphia are 1 and 2 respectively, but San Francisco's is right there as well. The only thing making me feel like they can split is that the Giants offense is so lousy.

Re: 5/30 Gamecrap

With Posey and Sandoval out they really have nothing.

I would rank the Gaints behind the Phillies in pitching but I dont pay that much attention to no NL Central teams.  The Cardinals facing the Gaints at home will help there chances.  They suck at west coast trip.  This past one was the only good one in recent memory.

Back to the topic of pitch, I think any team with as good as staff as the teams mentioned are equally dangerous in a short series.

Re: 5/30 Gamecrap

Theriot, ss
Craig, 2b
Pujols, 1b
Holliday, lf
Berkman, rf
Rasmus, cf
Molina, c
Descalso, 3b
McClellan, p

Holliday is back!

I wish La Russa would let Craig play second past the fifth inning.

Re: 5/30 Gamecrap

That is a deep lineup.  Not that Descalso has disappointed but it would be pretty awesome with a real third baseman.

I just saw the comparison between Pujols and Brendan Ryan on stltoday.

Pujols
AVE .257 OPS .326 SLG .395

Ryan
AVE .277 OPS .350 SLG .348

Pujols
HITS 54 DOUBLES 5 RBI 28

Ryan
HITS 39 DOUBLES 8 RBI 16

Re: 5/30 Gamecrap

That's frightening.

It's a shame they don't have Freese in the lineup. Imagine Yadier Molina and his .800 OPS. Batting eighth.

Re: 5/30 Gamecrap

I believe Ryan at least 60 less at bats then Pujols.  Yet his hit total isnt that far off.

Re: 5/30 Gamecrap

He was hitting .171 on May 4. He's 17 for his last 31.

I think the Post-dispatch had that Pujols hit .220 somehting on the roadtrip.  That isnt headed isnt headed right direction.

I can't figure out what today's baseball caps are supposed to say.  Anyone know?

Re: 5/30 Gamecrap

He's been laboring since the first pitch. Somewhere out there, some stat geek has figured out what the median BA is when a pitcher throws a first pitch ball, and what McClellan's BA is when he throws a first pitch ball. And I'll bet McClellan's is inordinately higher.

Everyone is wearing special Good Humor man hats. They've been doing this for a few years during the three long weekends during the season. This year, it seems it's just on the holiday itself.

How does Welke miss that call? The ball almost hit him in the foot. And how does Tejada complain? There's no way he could have seen where the ball landed because his angle was blocked by Welke.

Re: 5/30 Gamecrap

Bumgarner was at 31 pitches after pitching to McClellan.

McClellan is trying to untie the game.

If he keeps it up he is gong to be a full time second baseman.  I know the second double was a gift but it is going to be hard to sit him if he keeps hitting.  I wonder what kind of trade value he will have by the break?

I think he was just trying to get ot of the way of the ball.  Then the ball lands and remembers he has to make a call.
