This is weird. I was getting the Cardinals audio until the pitching change, and now I'm listening to Durwood Sutton and the guy who fills in for Mark Grace cheering for the Diamondbacks.

Now the audio is back to McLaughlin and Hrabosky.
Got to hear a clever pun from Durwood, though. "Freese made us all *freeze* for a minute, but Chris made the catch on the warning track ..."
Get it? Freese made them freeze.

This is a completely different Arizona team than we saw back in April out there.

When I saw Montero move inside, I said "Uh-oh. Don't go in there ..."

I know why you try to bunt there, but I don't like that decision with Rasmus up. He doesn't bunt well.

Mr. Cruz, welcome to the ballclub.

Especially against a sidewinding lefty. It wasn't a terrible bunt, though. And the pitcher made a really good play.

Tony Cruz is a ...
OK, so Tony Cruz isn't a god yet, but that's a big hit. Way to reward the manager, GM or whoever it was who decided to keep him over Hamilton.

I'll make my position known early, I liked the Gerald Laird move, and still like Laird, but I'm all for Tony Cruz as the back up catcher next season.

Yeah. And Cruz gives you a little bit more maneuverability.
Cincinnati just took the lead in the 10th. Could be back to a tie for first place.
Oh look. Drew Stubbs struck out. That almost never happens.

Hey, did Derek Jeter get his 3,000th hit today? There's barely been a mention of it on ESPN or MLBN.

The Yankees better get a lot of mileage out of this because they're on the hook for a lot of money to a player who isn't very useful.

I had to think for a minute, but . . . yeah, I think I got it. That was a thinker.

You're being a baseball Scrouge. Jeter is an OK guy and this was big for MLB.

I thought with Cruz's versatility, he'd be able to stick around with Laird on the roster as well. But he'll probably be optioned back once Craig is healthy again.
Descalso filling in reasonably well when Freese got hurt earned him enough La Russa Bucks to keep his roster spot safe.

Not at all. It's a remarkable achievement for a classy guy who has epitomized what team sports are supposed to be all about. I just got a little tired of seeing it for 20 minutes every half-hour on ESPN News.

There ought to always be room for a guy like Scal.

The solution for that is pretty easy.

The guy who gave up the the ball is such a sap.

I disagree with describing Jeter as "classy." I'm 1,500 miles away so maybe I just get the national viewpoint, but a guy who refuses to move off of shortstop for the guy who is the better shortstop, won't volunteer to move off shortstop at 37 and won't volunteer to move down in the order isn't very teammatey.

Maybe my standards are a little lower these days, TK. Jeter hasn't ever done anything to embarrass himself, his teammates or the game, on or off the field, with the New York media looking over his shoulder all the time.
(OK, maybe dating Mariah Carey was a little questionable, but if that's the worst thing you have on your resume, you've led a life of integrity.)

I found the guy's lack of greed kind of refreshing.

I can understand why he did it, but if you have a chance to make some good money, you should probably do it. The guy could pay off his student loans, put some aside for a house and maybe even get started on a college fund for Yankee Fan, Jr.

Worst thing about giving the ball to Jeter is it makes it look like Yankee fans might be as good-hearted as St. Louis fans, and I cannot wrap my mind around a world where their fans can be equated with ours.

Until we get a reputation for throwing D batteries at opposing players, I think we're in good shape. One of the most obvious "Geez, ya think?" moments of my life was when I bought tickets from a Yankee fan who advised me not to wear a Red Sox hat to Yankee Stadium.
