7/18 other games crap

- Anyone interested in starting a poll on when Honus Cozart will draw his first major league walk?

- The Pirates' radio announcers wondered aloud if the acquisition of Hunter Pence would create a problem of having too many outfielders.

- The next time someone tries to tell you the Phillies are the best team in baseball, reply that Rodrigo Lopez held them to one run on five hits in 6 2/3 innings on July 18. Great starting pitching? Yes. Great team? Not necessarily.

- There appear to be approximately two dozen people in the stands at Chase Field tonight. Watching a game between a team in first place in the NL Central and a team 3 1/2 games out of first place in the NL West.

- Alfonso Soriano is the worst outfielder I've ever seen. That's ever.

Re: 7/18 other games crap

I find it hard to believe he could be worse than Chris Duncan.

Re: 7/18 other games crap

I need to amend my comment about the crowd in Feenicks. There's a lot more people now. It must have been one of those weird 6:40 p.m. local starts. I can never remember when Arizona is on Mountain or Pacific time.

You never got the sense Duncan wasn't giving his best, as limited as that was. Soriano probably has better instincts, but it always seems like he's going three-quarter speed.

Re: 7/18 other games crap

The Pirates' announcers are already pimping the weekend series. And they've been drawing huge crowds at PNC lately. I hope the Cardinals are prepared for a lot of people who have been waiting for a long time to make a lot of noise.

Durwood Sutton just suggested Southern University "is a smaller, less well-known school" than UCLA.

Re: 7/18 other games crap

Miles hit the Giants' catcher in the head with his bat on a follow-through. Knocked him out of the game.
What a menace.
Oh, and the Dodgers suck. Really.

How can he hit the catcher with such a small follow through?  Not only that but how can he hurt someone with a swing that was only ment to flip the ball over the first baseman's head.

Re: 7/18 other games crap

Miles is hitting .315 with 23 RBIs.  WTF?

Can I have the date two days after Miles' next walk.  264 PA, 8 BB.  That's almost impossible.

He's gotten a lot of playing time because Furcal has been hurt and Uribe has been hurt and/or sucked.
Aaron Miles and Jamey Carroll give you a scrappiosity factor that's off the charts, but if they're your starting middle infield for most of the season, chances are you're going to be where the Dodgers are in the standings.

He went the entire month of May with 84 ABs without drawing a single walk. I wonder if that's a record?

As are about 99% of all other institutions of higher education.

Thanks, Artie.  I was going to point out that I really have nothing against Miles other than that he was one of Tone's boys, which meant he got more playing time than his talent dictated.  He's not a horrible player, by any means, and he even batted .317 for the season, for us, back in 2008.

Skip only has 13 in 204 PA.

The problem with that comparison is Skippy is a full-grown person. The verticality of Miles' strike zone is something like an inch-and-a-half to begin with. If he bends his knees, he ought to be able to draw a walk every time he goes to the plate.
