Six days ago I coached a football game in a short sleeve shirt, and today I had to fish the snow shovel out of the garage ...

If it makes you feel any better, I had to get off the couch, turn off the heater and go around the house opening windows. It was quite tiring.

If it makes you feel any better, I had to get off the couch, turn off the heater and go around the house opening windows. It was quite tiring.

Is it really snowing out there? I have not even turned he heat on yet.
We got about 1-2 inches, but it was sunny today, so it's almost all gone. We're so close to the water, which is still about 55 degrees, that the rain didn't become snow for very long. Apparently, there was about half a foot of snow 20 miles inland, and central and western Massachusetts got like 12-18 inches.
We get these freak storms once in awhile. When I was a senior in college we got two feet of snow on Columbus Day. The worst thing is about a storm this early is the leaves are still on the trees, and the weight of the snow on the trees brings down the power lines.

Most of the hunters I know who live in Massachusetts go to New Hampshire to hunt. There are more deer, the season lasts longer, and the license is probably cheaper. Hunting is one of those things the People's Republic frowns upon, like casino gambling, and fireworks. So everyone who is interested in those things just drives out-of-state.
We had an idiot governor in the late '70s and early '80s who thought the best way out of the economic malaise of the Carter era was to coin a catchy slogan - "Make it in Massachusetts" - and put it on bumper stickers. New Hampshire, which has no sales tax, responded with a counter slogan "And spend it in New Hampshire."
You go to a state liquor store in New Hamsphire or a casino in Connecticut and half the cars in the parking lot have Massachusetts tags. And our state Legislature hasn't been able to get a casino bill passed because there are too many elected officials who think their job description includes saving people from their sins.
