A couple of things. First, Tebow didn't not create this, as the author implies. He spawned the movement of the weak-minded who for whatever reason need their sports mixed with religion when he started wearing the numbers of biblical verses on his eye black patches and genuflecting on the field.
Secondly: "But Rev. Marcus Buckley of a Baptist Church in Greer, S.C., believes those who speak out against such public displays of religion are haters.
"To me it just shows a cultural bias against Christ and Christianity," Rev. Buckley said.
It's official. Every subset of American society is now a victim. BTW, this is the time of year I have to change my route to work to avoid the traffic from people overwhelming a mall so they can buy presents to celebrate the birth of Christ, in spite of oppression from all the "haters."

I know many Christians who also hate Tim Tebow, so Mr. Buckley can shove it.

You now what pisses me off the most about Tebow so far? That he's making me root for the Jets tonight.

How did that work out? I was pretty surprised to see that prayer ring with Jets players in it at the end of the game!

Hey, Tebow completed almost half his passes, so I guess it was a good game by his standards.
The post-game communal prayer meeting at midfield is standard these days. It just doesn't get shown on TV unless one of the players thinks he's one of the disciples.

I dont really know the bible and I dont attend mass like I should. However when I see acts like this I like to take what I do know and apply it.
"Mathew 6:6
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
What bugs me is when people boast about being holly. When they do that they are really just bragging about himselfs and it has nothing to do with religion. One more quote and then I quit.
"Luke 18:9
He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ ..."

The fact that Tebow was drafted at all, much less the first round, and is thus able to start football games in the NFL can be called nothing short of divine intervention into the man's career. He truly has no business being in an NFL offense, let alone leading one.
That said, if the game is close, something in that man goes off, and if a game can be won, he'll win it. You'll walk away scratching your head trying to understand how Tebow led the Broncos 95 yards down the field in a game, much less a final drive. I would say this cannot possibly be sustained, but until it does, the man is 4-1 right, and deserves the spot.

I don't care if Tebow or anyone else runs around carrying a cross in one hand a football in the other.
What bothers me is hypocrisy. Tebow for all I know may be genuine about his faith, but there have been enough Jim Bakkers and Jimmy Swaggerts in my lifetime to make me think people who pound the bible are trying deafen others.
People are willing to forgive people for being human. But people aren't as willing to forgive hypocrisy.

Some of the more "In your face" style Christians, like Pat Robertson who make a living "translating every natural disaster as divine punishment for misdeeds" make forgiveness on such a level impossible. Haiti's earthquake was a result of godless voodoo. Katrina was our punishment for abortion, we had 9/11 coming, etc....
The "God hates fags" church of lawyers trying to draw a lawsuit by protesting soldier funerals (Edit: Westboro Baptist Church, I looked them up) is tops on my list of hate for anything misrepresenting god/christianity. Pat Robertson and that rapture idiot are tied for a distant second.

Hypocrisy is one thing I cant stand in people and it was my point as well. The bible tells you not to make a show of your faith. Reasons like you have stated is what made me shy away from church. The more active in church you are the more of a uptight prick you can be. I guess throwing a $20 in the collection plate makes it okay to be a piece of shit in real life. Tebow can keep taking a knee and bragging about never have gotten laid. To most it means ever little.

AP, I totally agree. I went to a great church when I was growing up in Oregon. We (me and mom) were members 6 and 7. The pastor was grass roots, but loved God, and spoke with conviction and compassion every week. I made an assumption that all churches were that way. When we moved to Texas, I tried to get into two different churches. The first was a bunch of nose raised snobs who couldn't be bothered to look down long enough to notice their feet touching the ground, and thus assumed they didn't. The second involved a youth group that would read the bible over a pack of Marlboro's. I liked the second group, but the smoke was brutal. In the end, I just fell away from the entire scene. When we left Oregon, the church had grown to about 150 people. The Pastor gave it to another pastor, and moved to another rural area, and started another new church. He was just getting to the "Mercedez payment in the tithe plate" level with a strong congregation, but didn't want to be rich. He didn't want a massive church either, he just wanted to go to areas and focus on 5-50 people at a time. He called it God's calling on his life. I look at it as an adult as a seriously bad retirement choice, but I still respect a man with that much conviction in what he loves that he turns down success.

I took for granted what church went to me and the good it did. We had a really good priest that I still believed is a very upstanding person. Then he left and we got a fat, sticky fingured, preverted, slob. He did things that made it impossible to take him serious. There was alot of talk about him stealing and sex issues (not little boys, just gayness and renting porn). One night he used mass as a platform to bitch about the members complaints. It was then I came to understand what a joke the Catholic church was. The sex stuff was always troubling but it seemed like a problem that didnt apply to our area. This priest really turne me on the idea of listening o another man preach to me. My family is catholic and I believe it would be frowned upon for me to go to another church but I often wondered what it would be like to listen an talk about faith then be preached to. Currently I find that reflecting on decisions and talking about it with trusted friends is more usefull then church.

I always liked Jake Plummer. It is my fetish average QBs. This makes me like him more.

No comments after Tebow & the Bronco defense won yet again yesterday? The Today Show just called Tebow "God's quarterback". Even my husband is actually showing interest in the Broncos! We turn it on & wait until the 4th quarter to really watch (grin)

I turned it after he fumbled late in the 4th. Thought the game was over and started watching Super Troopers. Little did I know.

Probably not, but he might have had a hand in Roethlisberger's ankle injury a couple of weeks ago.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens on Saturday. My friends who are Patriots' fans are thrilled because they think this game is going to be a layup, but if the NFL sacrifices its beloved Stealers, then it may serve up the Patriots as well.

We saw some pretty amazing things happen with the Cardinals so who knows what might happen with the Broncos & Patriots.

The Patriots aren't America's Team anymore. That mantle has been bestowed upon the Packers. So it wouldn't surprise me if the Broncos end up playing the Packers in the Super Bowl. The thought of that matchup sends a tingle down the leg of every executive at NBC.
