"juiced balls"?!

Give me a break (furious) The umps have control of the game balls the whole time so how could The Rockies pick & choose which baseball they get to hit?! These whiners need to lose (lol)

Re: "juiced balls"?!

This topic came up after the Rockies scored 25 runs on the Cardinals in the bottom of the 9th and it has come up before.  I also dont think the umps have control over it.

I thought this thread was going to be about "The Rocket".

LOL!  Somehow I just knew the thred title would get distorted (shocked)

The article did explain how the whole bag of baseballs is taken out of the humidor & given to the ump not long before the game, so there's no way the Rockies & ONLY the Rockies could get baseballs left out of the humidor.  The Giants would have just as much opportunity to hit them out as the Rockies - so there

It didnt really say that at all.  The umps have little control over the balls.  An "umpires’ attendant" rubs the balls up.  I guess the attendent in Cincinnati must be a Reds fan.

Then the balls sit in the  Rockies dugout, giving them every chance in the world to switch the balls out when they want.

Before each game, balls are taken out of the humidor and rubbed up by the umpires’ attendant. They are then placed in a ball bag and put back into the humidor. After the national anthem, the bag is taken to the Rockies’ dugout and those balls are used during the game.

Re: "juiced balls"?!

It's pretty easy, Web. You have two similar-looking bags of baseballs. One has the balls that were in the humidor, the other has ones that weren't. The umpire signals the Rockies bat boy to bring out baseballs, and he brings out the drier balls when the Rockies are coming to bat. There's really no way for the plate umpire at that point to know if they came from the humidor or not. There's no proof they're doing this of course, but considering the number of complaints and the conicidental nature of these late inning rallies for the Rockies, it's certainly plausible.

Sorry but I just think this is a bunch of whining because they lost one friggin game in Denver.  Did they really think they'd win all of them?  The one they lost was 10 to 9 in extra innings so both teams were hitting.  Lincecum won his game 2 to 1 & he's still whining? It's just a bunch of baseless acqusations that make the teams who are making the claims look like children who are sore losers who can't believe anyone could beat them so they look for excuses. The Rockies have a couple of power hitters right now who are hitting.  Tulo was in a slump early in the season, home & away.

How would fans in Texas feel if people started saying they were trying to make their baseballs more heavy with humidity?

BTW, who asked the Rockies to start putting their baseballs in a humidor anyway?  I think it was voluntary.
