Austin Wilson

Remember him? He was the first round talent that the Cardinals took 12th in the draft last year because he was so committed to playing at Stanford.

Out of curiosity, I checked to see how Wilson did:

.313/.349/.415 with four homers, seven walks and 53 strikeouts.

Now, I'm not an expert on Pac-12 baseball, so that could be impressive for a freshman. But it looks underwhelming and if the Cardinals were indeed offering him first round money, he probably should have taken it. He does have three years to build his stock back up, but good grief, a first round talent with a metal bat can only hit .313/.349/.415?

It's tough to judge college numbers this year because of the new bat regulations, TK. Fifty-three whiffs and seven walks seems like a discrepancy, even if you're holding a candlestick in your hands, though.
