baseball tonight did a good piece on this day in history: the babe announced his retirement, the mariners drafted ken griffey, jr., griffey announced his retirement and . . . the 28 out perfect game by gallaraga.  the piece was an extended interview with joyce, including bits by his wife and daughter.  watching that, i can't imagine continued resistance to instant replay in baseball.  as one of the baseball-ers tonight said, it would have saved joyce's reputation as a good ump had instant replay been in place for that game.
