6/9 Gamecrap

Lynn vs. Happ

They're going to need something big from Lynn.

I doubt they make it out of Milwaukee in first place, but as long as they keep it close until Holliday and Craig come back, they should be OK.

Re: 6/9 Gamecrap

HOUSTON -- With lefthander J.A. Happ starting tonight for the Astros, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is stacking his lineup with . . . lefthanded bats?

OK, "stacking" is an exaggeration, but lefty-swinging Jon Jay is in the 2 hole, lefty Mark Hamilton is starting at first base and batting fifth, and slumping Colby Rasmus stays in the lineup and hits seventh.

The reason: Happ's glaring splits. Lefthanded hitters are batting .342 against him with a .413 on-base percentage and .632 slugging percentage.

Righthanders such as Albert Pujols, who will start at third base again as he did for Lance Lynn's first start, are batting only .229 against the lefty with a .316 OBA and .390 slugging pct.

Jay is a .360 hitter vs. lefties (.304 vs. RHP), and Rasmus -- in a four-for-31 slide overall -- is hitting .281 vs. lefties (.259 vs. RHP). Hamilton has only 17 at-bats all season, four vs. lefthanders (one hit).

Cards' lineup:

1. Theriot, SS

2. Jay, LF

3. Pujols, 3B

4. Berkman, RF

5. Hamilton, 1B

6. Cruz, C

7. Rasmus, CF

8. Greene, 2B

9. Lynn, P

Astros' lineup:

1. Bourn, CF

2. Keppinger, 2B

3. Pence, RF

4. Lee, LF

5. Wallace, 1B

6. Johnson, 3B

7. Barmes, SS

8.Towles, C

9. Happ, P

Re: 6/9 Gamecrap

Random meaningless fact: It's 7 degrees hotter in Boston right now than it is in Houston.

Re: 6/9 Gamecrap

Why is Rasmus so low in the order?

Re: 6/9 Gamecrap

My initial impression of Lance Lynn is he needs to start finding the strike zone earlier in the count.

Re: 6/9 Gamecrap

Batista throws a gorgeous sixth inning, and then starts nibbling against the bottom of the order in the seventh.
No one in the history of baseball has hit a 6-run homer. Throw strikes.

My first impression was that if he threw that curveball to a real major league team it would have got crushed Jason Marquis style.
