I've become so accustomed to Theriot's arm that when Descalso whipped the ball to first from shortstop, it kind of took me by surprise.

I can't believe some of you guys didn't like the Berkman signing.

How close did the first baseman come to hitting Kennedy in the head on that throw to the plate on Raz's grounder?

Not me!

Hard to believe Johnson hit a nasty pitch like that out of the ballpark.

McLaughlin: "Except for two bad innings, it's been a good start for Lohse."

What a scathing indictment of the left handers in our bullpen. Lohse was throwing pus, and if TLR truly believed that Lohse was a better option than Miller or Valdez, then why are they on the team?

You know what bugged me the most about Berkman before he came to the Cardinals, Web? This may seem like a small thing, but when he was with the Astros and they acquired Jose Valverde, he was quoted saying something like "We don't need a showboat like that on our team." He was probably right, and I've never liked Valverde posing to show up the other team, but you don't say that about a teammate. Even if you're asked. Even if you can't stand a guy, you keep it in the clubhouse.

My goodness. Heilman has given up seven homers in 32 innings? That's Franklin-esque.

Hey, knock it down with your chest, right? That's just good baseball.

Man, I sure hope Lohse is just having a rough spell. This team can't afford having him suck again.
Y'know, after tonight the Pirates could be tied for first place.

Before tonight:
Freese v. Heilmann- 3 for 3
Pujols v. Heilmann 6 for 13
That decision probably short circuited Larussa's index cards.

It's amazing how much a lousy bullpen disrupts an entire team. I think it was Don Zimmer who said "If you ain't got a bullpen, you ain't got shit." It was either Zimmer or Dostoyevsky. Goddamn good for nothing existentialists ...

I'm sure glad we didn't bring in Valdez to face Johnson.

Correction: Eight homers in 33 innings.

Four hitters and Heilman gave up a bomb and two line drives.
He's never gotten over Yadi's homer in '06.

Mr. Close-and-Late strikes again.

Throwing your body against the board may be an effective was to keep a puck from going around the boards, but it's a lousy way to play left field.
I would never have pictured Parra for a hockey fan.

Anyone else get the sense that Gibson wanted to kneecap his relief pitcher? It's a good thing he wasn't managing the Cardinals earlier this year. DFA would stand for "dead from assault"

This may be slightly off topic, but why does cream cheese spoil so quickly?
You're all fired up for a bagel as a late night snack, and you open the container of cream cheese your wife bought just a couple of days ago, and there's already mold on the lid.
How come?

Dig deeper. There will still be some good stuff in there.
