I'm convinced you have to have a scoundrel for a coach if you're going to win enough college football games to be considered a serious contender. James was certainly that. The problem was by the time the James/Lambright/Neuheisel reign of terror ended, everyone was watching them so closely they had to follow the rules or the NCAA would have taken a guillotine to the program. So they ended up with Ty Willingham, a terrific guy who couldn't coach a lick.
What's frustrating if you're an Arizona State fan is when you have a guy like Dennis Erickson who's a scoundrel and still can't win.
