7/16 Gamecrap

My favorite all-time comment from an announcer is by Brantley tonight:
"Bronson was clearly overexasperated early in the year by mononucleosis."

Next Saturday is "Girls Just Want to Have Fun Fireworks Night" at GAB.
Don't ask because I have no idea ...

Rolen's top hand is coming off again. That usually means his shoulder is ailing.

Punto just made the worst throw I've ever seen from a major leaguer.

Re: 7/16 Gamecrap

Reds announcer's are explaining why some teams around .500 are excited, like the Pirates, and others, like the Reds, are disappointed.  Apparently it has something to do with expectations, but I'm hoping they get back to that point after the commercial break so that I can hear more and, hopefully, wrap my mind around that.

Try all you want, but you're just going to end up with a headache.

It's a thinker, but they piqued my curiosity and now I just know I'll be up all night puzzling over that enigma.

It might have something to do with the notion TTTIB needs to go 55-14 the rest of the way to get to Danny's prediction of 101 wins.

But explain this to me, why are some teams happy about a .500-ish record, while others are disappointed?!?  It's an enigma, and I'm sure it will keep me up all night.  Why oh why didn't they just finish that thought???  Who has their Twitter feed?

Re: 7/16 Gamecrap

"When Carpeter came to bat for the first time on Saturday, the Reds' public address system played The Platters' version of "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes." The Reds usually don't play music when opponents come to bat."

Classy organization.  Marge Schott taught them well.

Was that the at bat he hit a double?
There was an episode last night that confirms why Brennaman is such a jerk. When Freese failed to make an out on Renteria's groundball in the third inning, Brennaman saw Carpenter take off his hat and slam it on his thigh, and said roughly, "This is a guy who doesn't mind showing up his teammates," and then relayed the story about him "dressing down" (what does that mean anyway?) Ryan in the dugout last year. Brennaman didn't include the part, however, about Ryan being late onto the field because he forgot where he put his glove, and that Carpenter tried to pull him out of view of the TV cameras when he talked to him.
And, of course, there was no indication Carpenter was upset with Freese, and he was just as likely upset with the first base umpire because the runner may have been out. I'm not sure, because FSN Ohio never bothered to show a replay of the play at first because they were concentrating on portraying Carpenter as a villian.

Thanks for the info.  It helps to dispel the mental image of Tone helping one of his proteges deal with the disappointment of a bad day in the field.

Re: 7/16 Gamecrap

What's funny is that the idiots in Cincinnati are completely ignoring that the home plate umpire made Carpenter wait for the smoke to clear.

That he pisses them off so much made that win last night all the sweeter.

Re: 7/16 Gamecrap

It's easier for TTTIB and the idiots that broadcast their games to explain their hatred of the Cardinals than it is to explain why they're under .500.

It's sort of like those years Cub fan would try to taunt "your team sucks, we won the season series," while finishing 15 games behind the Division Champion Cardinals

or why they're disappointed with a .500-ish record, while Pirates fans are thrilled.

but seriously, FWIW, this is politics the world over.  It's easier for a dictator and the idiots who speak for them to explain their hatred of America and Israel than it is to explain why their own country underperforms the world average.  Hence, we get a lot of America and Israel bashing from people who seemingly aren't qualified to sweep our streets.
