Re: 7/22 Gamecrap

This has the feel to me of the series last August with the Reds, where we come in with the season on the line and let the other team knock us out of it.  I hope I am wrong, but except for one inning in NY when the Mets' wheels came off, it feels like we are the team riding on bare axles.

Which series with the Reds was that--the one in Cincinnati when the Cardinals swept the Reds or the one in St. Louis when the Cardinals won 2 of 3?

I wonder if Carpenter gets through this game without getting tossed.

Re: 7/22 Gamecrap

The Pirates have hit the ball pretty hard against Carp so far.

I finally figured it out. Max is Thom Brennaman.

Re: 7/22 Gamecrap

The Cardinals beat Pittsburgh and move a game closer to first.

When was the last time someone said that?  1992?

Not to pile on Max but we just spoke of record between the two teams a couple months ago.

I thought it tied us up with the Pirates.  If the Brewers lose agains tht Gaints tonight it is a threeway tie for first.

I'm glad these people in Pittsburgh are showing up for a team they can finally root for. It's a better sports city than Miami, Cincinnati, Atlanta, and Chicago.
I just have to try to forget some of them are also Steelers' fans.

Giants take a 1-0 lead in the first ... even though they're wearing those hideous orange uniform tops again tonight.

Re: 7/22 Gamecrap

It's nearly 10:30 p.m. and it's still 91 degrees outside here with 70 percent humidity. Even my eyelids are sweating.

Re: 7/22 Gamecrap

I have almost no confidence in Salas right now. Even most of the outs are hit hard.

I have as much confidence in him as I have had in a Cardinals closer in the last 5 years.  One thing about him is that he will throw strikes.

The ball was really jumping off the bat tonight.  Molina hit that ball to deep center and it cleared the wall by alot.

The computer says it is 86 here at 9:30 but I dont believe it.  Stepping outside is like walking into an over.  Retired guys want to winter in warm weather.  I think I am going to reverse that.  In May I am going to start moving to Canada.

Speaking of the wintering type, anyone here from Mags lately?

Re: 7/22 Gamecrap

My phone say 92 degrees, 101 heat index as of 10:01 p.m.  The air outside is chewable.

I haven't. I keep thinking about sending him an email, but I never get around to itt.

This is supposed to be the last day of it for us. Part of the problem around here is very few people have central air, because it never really gets that hot here for that long. Yesterday the high temp in Boston was 103, which was supposedly the second hottest day here since records started being kept in 1876. I'd rather deal with summer than winter, though. I've never had to shovel two feet of hot.

Re: 7/22 Gamecrap

No central air?!?  We switch from heat to air in a week around here.  I can leave the heat off half the winter but as soon as it hits 80 degrees the air is getting tured on.  I dont really mind scooping snow.  I can have the front and back sidewalk swept off and the deck in a half hour.  I dont really even need to do that but I think it looks better.  Plus it only snows a couple times a year.  I might think different if I didnt have a 4-wheel drive truck and a garage to park it in.  I spend alot more time on a mower, behind a mower, weedeating and spraying weeds then I ever will behind a snow shovel.

Whoops.  Brain cramp.  We swept the Reds and then collapsed.  Happy about the win yesterday and the big lead today.  Let's hope the confused analogy doesn't hold.

We only need a/c about 10 days out of the year, so it's not worth the expense. We have room air conditioners in the den and the master bedroom that I put in about two weeks ago, and yesteday and today is the first time I can recall running them for more than 24 hours in a row. Snowfall varies wildly. Three out of the last four years, we've gotten a lot, but the one in between we got nothing. Last year, it seemed like we got a foot of snow every Saturday. My son was pissed. We nearly set a record for snowfall and he got one snow day out of it.

Re: 7/22 Gamecrap

I cant tell you how much I hate summer.  It cant be healthy to wear a vest 8 hours a day.  I am pretty sure my guts are cooked.  I had a landlord who, since he could collect rent from his renters decided to steal their 50 inch TVs.  That is not a big deal but loading and unloading the TVs in 100 degree heat wear basicly a winter coat sucked.  Being soaked in sweat a couple hours into a shift makes for a long day.

Re: 7/22 Gamecrap

Just read the paper, Bellingham has not hit 80 yet this summer.  Might tomorrow.  Same could probably be said for pretty much everywhere within 20 miles of the ocean from Seattle to the Canadian border.  There's a thin line of communities away from the ocean, but not quite in the Cascades that might have hit 80, but even that's not for sure.

By the way, we closed on a house in Bham yesterday.  We are officially trailer trash, manufactured home in rental lot.  But we can afford it on my wife's salary only.  So hopefully we won't fall in the trap so many others have.

Re: 7/22 Gamecrap

Nothing wrong with a double wide.  One of my many plans is to set a double wide on a basement on about 20 acers of woods and maybe a pond.  With the way it is going I doubt that happens.  By the time I get all my projects completed around here I wont want to sell for what the property would sell for.
