7/23 Gamecrap

Missed the start of the game, are these Negro League jerseys?

So far, so good although we could/should have had a couple more in that 2nd inning.

Re: 7/23 Gamecrap

I like the Cards jerseys.

On the pregame Chris Duncan had an interview with The Cat.  I wasnt overly good but I enjoy Duncan.  I am glad he found something like radio to continue his career around baseball.  For about a year there he could rake.

I know the Pirates are wearing the Homestead Grays unis. I don't know enough about the Negro Leagues to know the name of the team that was in St. Louis.

Re: 7/23 Gamecrap

I would have thought that the grays were for the mixed race league.  Maybe the St. Louis team was called the "Stars".

Garcia is looking a bit red and puffy.  Might be overheating.

Re: 7/23 Gamecrap

Is it just me, or does McKenry seem a little annoyed with Veras's lack of command?

Re: 7/23 Gamecrap

Pitching change with two outs in the top of the ninth in a 9-1 game. I bet Hurdle is thrilled to be making this trip.

I believe the broadcast crew said that "starts" was correct.

Re: 7/23 Gamecrap

I know it is Tony's M.O. to use day games after night games as a chance to start the "B" team but the Cardinals really need the sweep.

The red spikes with the black shoes look ridiculous.

Descalso's arm at SS looks fine to me.

Re: 7/23 Gamecrap

Garcia 10-4, 3.01.

One more good start and he'll be back down below 3.

Re: 7/23 Gamecrap

Wow. What a great play by Scal to end the game. That was impressive.

St. Louis Stars was correct.  Played from 1922-31

More importantly a good start on the road, in a big game.

Re: 7/23 Gamecrap

If someone told me that the Cardinals already traded Rasmus I think I would believe them.  He hasnt played since the first game of the Mets series.

They aren't trading him.  Or at least I doubt they're trading him.  Sitting him on the bench is depressing his value.  But I wouldn't be surprised if Rasmus isn't on the roster at the start of 2012.

I tend to think that they are trading him--but only if they get a return of something like a front of the rotation starting pitcher.

The biggest drag on his value this season has been when he plays.  Much better to let opinions like Strauss's quietly take root: super talented kid who will never make it under La Russa.  Needs the kind of manager they have in (Tampa/Chicago's South Side/Seattle/etc.).

I dont think they are going to deal him either but it is odd that he is sitting so much.  I dont see how him sitting on the bench helps him get going.  It is like they see him as a lost cause.  At this point I real dont care if he is on the team or not.  I do expect them to get something if he is dealt.

I think they can now safely send Theriot where ever Rasmus has gone, too.

I will agree with TLR that Descalso has caught onto short quickly.

Re: 7/23 Gamecrap

FWIW, Descalso has a slightly higher OBP and OPS than Theriot, and . . . he can actually play SS.

That's why I softened my stance, but I'd be shocked if anyone is willing to give the Cardinals the value they're going to be looking for in return.  Tampa just called up Desmond Jennings, who is a very good outfield prospect.  I'm not sure where Rasmus would fit with that club.

Christ, could you imagine Rasmus trying to play for Ozzie Guillen?  Imagine the online war of words between Guillen's kid and Rasmus' dad.

Re: 7/23 Gamecrap

I have not took the time to figure out who Rasmus fits in best with.  He is slowly playing his way off of this team.  If he does so his trade value is going to take a deep dive.  If that happens what is the point of dumping him?  Honestly, with the direction this is headed, now might be the best time to trade him.
