They aren't trading him.  Or at least I doubt they're trading him.  Sitting him on the bench is depressing his value.  But I wouldn't be surprised if Rasmus isn't on the roster at the start of 2012.

I tend to think that they are trading him--but only if they get a return of something like a front of the rotation starting pitcher.

The biggest drag on his value this season has been when he plays.  Much better to let opinions like Strauss's quietly take root: super talented kid who will never make it under La Russa.  Needs the kind of manager they have in (Tampa/Chicago's South Side/Seattle/etc.).

That's why I softened my stance, but I'd be shocked if anyone is willing to give the Cardinals the value they're going to be looking for in return.  Tampa just called up Desmond Jennings, who is a very good outfield prospect.  I'm not sure where Rasmus would fit with that club.

Christ, could you imagine Rasmus trying to play for Ozzie Guillen?  Imagine the online war of words between Guillen's kid and Rasmus' dad.

You never know, people can learn.

I got a chuckle when I read Tony Rasmus say he'd stop posting online if the Cards asked him to.  Dear Tony, today's lesson in people skills is "why people don't always tell you what they'd really like to tell you": people don't like to have to tell you stuff like that, and if they did, it would be too late.  If you're making public offers to stop bugging people, it's probably time to stop bugging them.

It seems dubious, but I remember thinking J.D. Drew playing for Bobby Cox wouldn't make it to opening day and it turned out to be Drew's best season. You never know what works for a guy. Maybe Raz could use a guy like Ozzie who will tell him to grow up. And I can't imagine Rasmus's father's nonsense would even cause a ripple with the Chicago press, considering they've got Carlos Zambrano to write about.

I have not took the time to figure out who Rasmus fits in best with.  He is slowly playing his way off of this team.  If he does so his trade value is going to take a deep dive.  If that happens what is the point of dumping him?  Honestly, with the direction this is headed, now might be the best time to trade him.

As bad as Raz's numbers have been trending, he'd still be Atlanta's second-best outfielder. Jason Heyward is batting .221/.318/.420 and Nate McLouth is still terrible.

Now THERE's a guy who's gonna win the Rookie of the Year award one of the days.  Atlanta could have TWO of 'em.
