One thing Jackson has going for him. I don't think I've ever seen a Cardinals' starting pitcher hit 98 mph.

FSN Brewers is reporting Pence has been traded to the Phils.

What a lazy effort by Ramirez on Holliday's double.

Scal at short; Theriout at second. Interesting.

beginning of the end?
speakin' of which, first outfield assist that is a direct result of the Rasmus trade? Nice throw by Schu.

Haven't seen a throw like that from a Cardinals' outfielder since Edmonds retired.

I just posted as much. What the fuck are the Astr-holes doing?

After further review, that's probably untrue. Ludwick gunned down a couple of guys at the plate with similar accuracy.

Blowing it up. I know the last place the Cardinals need help is in the outfield, but if Ed Wade is intent upon completely leveling the thing except for Carlos Lee (who is essentially untradeable), I'd at least inquire about what it would take to pry loose Michael Bourn.

Call me a sentimental idiot, but I see an ovation like the one Pujols just received for his 2,000th hit, and I get more convinced he'll be back in St. Louis in 2012.

He seemed very appreciative, didn't he?

How can Carlos Marmol look so good some nights, and completely suck on others? It's got to be more than just location. He's got some Cementhead in him. He has to.

I was about to ask when Marmol became Ryan Franklin. He looked like a punching bag.

I thought Jackson looked very good. I haven't watched many of his starts, but following his box scores a little for fantasy purposes, his pitch count was much lower tonight than it was in most of his games with CWS.
Anyone else notice that our team became much more diversified with this trade. Have the Cardinals had this many African-Americans on the team since the days of Jordan, Lankford and Gant?

I noticed that when Jackson and Patterson were talking in the dugout the other night.
Not that it matters, but is Jay black? Or is he, as Archie Bunker referred to Harry Belafonte, "a good-looking white guy dipped in caramel?"

At the risk of straining my arm that has gone sore from too much patting myself on the back, I believe I made public notice of Jon Jay in about May of 2010 when I saw him gun down someone from middling deep center field. And some people say Ankiel had a good arm*. So, there have been a few nice throws here and there, but nothing steady since Jimmy Baseball.
*remember those throws he would make to gun down runners trying to take third? on the fly, on the money, knee height.

Looks Hispanic to me. Where you from, Gringo?

Jay is black.

I thought Jay was a son of immigrants from Cuba?
Marmol was always destined to lose his touch. He never had great control and relievers like that have a quick expiration date.

What I found odds was playing Punto at second and Theriot at SS. There is no advantage to that. This is encouraging.

I think Bourn stays. They are unloading people costing them money. I would have to look it up but I think Bourn is pretty cheap. Myers and Rodriguez are going to be the next two to go. Rodriguez would be nice to have but he is owed 10.5 mill next year and 13 million in 2013.

I don't watch the Cubs very often anymore, but it seemed like he'd have two weeks when he was untouchable, and then he'd have a stretch of a few games where he couldn't throw the ball over the plate.
Cliff Lee's month of June and Orel Hershiser's second half of 1988 aside, pitchers don't tend to be as streaky as hitters. I think there's even a term for erratic pitchers. It's "minor leaguer."
