Wow. Furcal may never get a hit in a Cardinal uniform, but no way that piece of shit Theriot gets near that ball

I'm not sure Theriot makes that grab. {sarcasm}

He got called out on an inside pitch and just exploded. Bumped the umpire a couple of times. While he was barking at him, some spittle came flying out of his mouth and the umpire reacted like Yadi spit at him on purpose.

Re: 8/2 Gamecrap

He got called out on a pitch about 6 inches inside and went nuts. You could tell by the umpire's reaction that at least a couple of times, Molina let fly with a fair amount of saliva. Not a Robbie Alomar intentional spit in the face kind of thing, rather a heated exchange, say it don't spray it kind of situation. He also might have bumped the ump. I'd expect him to get a couple/few days of "league mandated" rest.

Re: 8/2 Gamecrap

I guess the Brewers are all fired up because LaRussa complained about the lights at Miller Park.

Anyone else get the impression that Laird was the jovial fat kid who would do anything his "friends" challenged him to do--like eat a bug or lick the concrete--and then went home and told his mom how popular he was?

Re: 8/2 Gamecrap

Normally, I'd think LaRussa was joking, but he has no sense of humor:

MILWAUKEE --The Milwaukee Brewers were contacted Tuesday by the commissioner's office as a result of the complaint lodged by Cardinals manager Tony La Russa late during Monday's game. Brewers GM Doug Melvin confirmed that the leagues office had talked with the Brewers, reviewed the complaint and determined that "no change" had to be made.

La Russa would not describe publicly what his complaint was to umpire crew chief Gary Darling.

Melvin and Darling confirmed that it had to do with the lighting around home plate, specifically the illumination of home plate while the Cardinals were batting and how the ribbon board that runs along the third deck of Miller Park would dim when the Cardinals hit.

"It's all been handled," Melvin said. "We didn't change anything. There was no reason to change anything. Something was brought up, but nothing was changed."

After the game La Russa only offered a vague comment on his concern.

"I'm not sure if it's the right thing to talk to you guys about, in fact it's the very thing I shouldn't talk to you guys about," La Russa told three members of the St. Louis media. "It's something they've heard before."

Geezus. The game in San Francisco ended about 30 seconds after the game in Millywalkey did.

Now that the game is over and the Cardinals have won, maybe someone should explain to K-rod that he looks like a total ass celebrating in the 8th inning.

I'm also happy there was no post-game interview with Tony Plush.

The Cardinals probably feel like Blake or Drake or whatever his name is has cost them at least two and as many as five runs in the series so far. He cuzzied the call at first on Skippy's double play on Monday, and then he called Skippy out in the seventh inning last night on a 3-2 pitch that was up around his eyeballs.
The Brewers' telecasts have the Fox Trax box or whatever it's called constantly in the lower right hand corner. The distinction between a strike and a ball is a yellow flash when the pitch goes through the zone. I only watched the last six or seven innings last night, but if the Fox Trax is accurate there were about a dozen pitches that the plate umpire missed, including the one on which he called out Yadi.
Molina's reaction was way, way too severe, but the umpire also reacted too dramatically when Yadi sprayed him in the face. It's not like Yadi hocked a loogy like Robby Alomar did a few years ago. He'll get suspended for making contact with the guy, but he ought not to get any more time for the saliva shower.

Re: 8/2 Gamecrap

Anyone catch Larussa's post game interview?  One of the milwaukee reporters pressed him on whether Motte intentionally threw at Braun.  Tony was about to lose his mind.

For anyone who didn't see the game, here's a link to mlb.com's video recap

Re: 8/2 Gamecrap

I can't find any video of the Larussa interview, but I did find some excerpts

“We threw two balls in there real good just to send a message,† La Russa said, raising his voice. “If he ducks them, it’s all over and we don’t hit him. The ball that they tried to throw on Pujols was aimed right where they aimed it. Did they try to hit him? No. But there’s a small window there.â€

La Russa said the pitch that hit Pujols wasn’t intentional, but he still hasn’t liked the way the Brewers have thrown to his biggest star.

“Real scary. They almost got him yesterday. There’s nothing intentional about it,† La Russa said. “That’s what all these idiots up there—not idiots, fans are yelling and yell. Do you know how many bones you have in the hands and the face? That’s where those pitches are. And Braun, we were trying to pitch him in, too, it’s just a little stinger. I don’t want to even hear about Braun getting a little pop in the back when we almost lose (Pujols) in several ways.â€

LaRussa would have gone bananas if he had heard Schroeder saying things like "the Cardinals think they're the guardians of the game," and repeatedly calling Motte "bush league" (which Schroeder ought to know about, since he spent so much time shuttling back between the majors and the minors), conveniently leaving out the part that Saito nearly ended Pujols with a pitch up around his head.

Tony doesn't like going up and in, and apparently they lobbed one up there in game 1, and then hit him up and in yesterday. Of course the Brewers commentators are in an uproar due to perceived "intent". Tony has a great point, of the two pitches, the one to Braun is far less dangerous to Braun. I'm sure it hurt like hell, Motte can wing a baseball, but the risk of Braun really getting hurt is not nearly as bad as pitching up and in. Especially to the icon of St. Louis baseball, who already broke his left wrist (the one facing the pitcher) this season.

I can relate, it's a bummer for Braun, but this all goes back to putting your players in harms way. If you want to throw inside (legitimately), keep the ball down.

Weaver got 6 games (1 start if they appeal correctly) for winging a ball over Aybar's head. I'm sure he'd do it again in a second if someone showed him up like Guillen did ever again.
