8/5 Gamecrap

A Cardinals third  baseman of the recent past is back. Joe Thurston, who started at the position for the Cardinals for half the season in 2009 when they won the National League Central Division title, has been purchased by the Marlins from their New Orleans Class AAA farm club.

The 31-year-old Thurston, hitting .315 with nine homers, will be at second base in place of Omar Infante, who suffered a broken middle finger on his right hand trying to make a diving stop on Skip Schumaker's grounder to Infante's left on Thursday. The ball deflected off Infante for a two-run double.

Thurston hit .225 for the Cardinals with one homer in 2009, his only full season in the majors.

Cardinals lineup:

Furcal ss

Jay cf

Pujols 1b

Holliday lf

Berkman rf

Schumaker 2b

Laird c

Descalso 3b

Westbrook p

Florida lineup:

Bonifacio ss

Dobbs 3b

Stanton rf

Morrison lf

G. Sanchez 1b

Cameron cf

Thurston 2b

Buck c

A. Sanchez p

That's 25 double plays, if you're keeping track.

Walking the friggin' pitcher costs Westbrook a run.
What an asshole.

Re: 8/5 Gamecrap

Good to see the AAstros putting a lot of resistance. 3-0 in the top of the 1st, Brewers still batting.

Re: 8/5 Gamecrap

The Cardinals' didn't need one of Westbrook's meandering 100-pitch, 5-inning outings

What the hell happened to J.A. Happ? He was Ok with the Phillies, but ever since he got traded, he's been J.A. Happless.

What the hell happened to J.A. Happ?

What the hell happened to my picture of Bartman and pissy hands???  That's my icon, not Artie's.

Re: 8/5 Gamecrap

For the record, Artie's should be a black square, all black.  Something so black it could make a man ask, "how much blacker could it be?"

And the answer would be: "None. None more black."

For the record, I had nothing to do with it. Besides, your photo is John Cusack's sissy acoustic guitar.

Re: 8/5 Gamecrap

Apparently Trever Miller and Mark Rzepcynski and the only lefties who come in and walk batters on 4 pitches.

I've been tuning in and out, but how did Westbrook look? Was he falling behind a lot of hitters again?

The anemic Padres are ahead, 13-5, in Pittsburgh. Anyone else think it's over for the Pirates?

Mixed bag. Dobbs had like a 12-pitch at bat in the first inning, so you kind of knew right away it wasn't going to be a 7 or 8-inning outing. The Marlins had plenty of runners, but he didn't cough up a big inning. The best two innings were his last, but by that point he was over 100 pitches.
