We can come out of this series tied for 1st, or trailing as much as 6 games depending on the outcome. The Brewers have won 11/12, and don't look to be slowing down much.
I like this series a lot more with them on the road, we need 2/3 here. Losing ground on this series would really hurt.

The Cardinals probably have to win at least 2-of-3. I was watching one of the baseball shows last night and when the host said the Brewers have pretty much wrapped up the NLC, one of the panelists reminded the rest of the group they played nine games at home and three on the road against the post-fire sale AAstros.

The Cardinals cant afford to lose another game in the standings. They have to make up ground, not lose it.

Hummel assesses the situation, and it ain't good. Basically, just to win 90 games the Cards have to play .680 ball over the 50 game stretch that remains.

If it makes you feel any better, Hummel's math was wrong. They only needed to win 31 of their last 50, not 34. And that was going into the weekend. After sweeping Florida, they need to win 28 of their last 47 (.596) to reach 90 wins.

There is damn rear 50 games left. All the Cardinals need to be worried about is winning this series and closing the gap. There is alot of baseball left.

*whew* I was worried they had an uphill battle.

The important stat is that they are three games behind the first place Brewers. In the next 4 games they need to come up with 3 more wins the the Brewers.

BTW of them 47 games they play the Brewers 9 times.

You are right about that, AP. Making three games is nothing. Even the Reds or Pirates could pull back into this thing with some good luck and a tail wind. Also, important to remember that the Brewers are something like 11-1 to get where they are now, and they can't keep that up much longer. Lots of baseball, small gap to make up. Keep eyes on the trail, one foot in front of the other, and don't think too much about the finish line just yet.
Now I am going to fucking panic.

I have the Brewers winning 94 games at most. Here's how their schedule breaks down:
3 @ STL
3 vs. PIT
4 vs. LAD
3 @ NYM
3 @ PIT
3 vs. CHI
3 vs. STL
3 @ HOU
3 @ STL
4 vs. PHI
2 vs. COL
3 @ CIN
3 @ CHI
3 vs. FLA
3 vs. PIT
25 at home and 22 on the road. All they need to do is go 15-10 at home and 14-8 on the road. The Cardinals can hurt them some starting tonight, but they have to win a lot of games.

That's a tit schedule. I wonder if Selig was looking over someone's shoulder.

My stab in the dark regarding Brewer wins if they don't have a hiccup:
3 @ STL = 1
3 vs. PIT = 3
4 vs. LAD =2
3 @ NYM =2
3 @ PIT = 2
3 vs. CHI = 2
3 vs. STL = 2
3 @ HOU = 2
3 @ STL = 1
4 vs. PHI = 1
2 vs. COL = 1
3 @ CIN = 2
3 @ CHI = 2
3 vs. FLA = 2
3 vs. PIT = 3
= 28 more wins, for 93 wins.

I don't really start to worry until there are fewer weeks remaining than they are games behind. I figure picking up one game a week isn't a big deal.
