I saw the hightlights of Skip letting Miles go yard on him. What a love triangle.
Skippy's fastball was clocked at 93 mph. I think it was the fastest pitch anyone in a Cardinals' uniform threw all night.
You are kiding right. I saw some 78MPH pitches during the highlight. I guess that must have been off speed pitches. If Skip can tune it up a couple more MPH he can join Motte as poor hitters converted to pitchers.

It's no joke, apparently. I went to the MLB.com gameday from yesterday and started looking through the 9th inning at bats.
--Edit, I had to look it up because I decided to leave the game for something more entertaining when Barajas led off the third with a homer to make it 8-0. Against Kershaw... That's enough run support for him to win 4 games.... I think Iron Mike lasted longer beating Spinks then I did trying to watch that game... Anyway.
Top speed - 93
Low speed - 78

This is a difference of 15 miles per hour. How is it that our second baseman understands how to pull this off, but our late game "setup" style reliever who gets paid to do this kind of thing cannot figure out how to palm a fastball?

When he struck out the first batter, it looked like he was trying to change speeds on purpose, but during Ethier's at bat it was evident he was airing it out early in the count and then taking something off when he had to throw a strike.
After Miles hit his homer, he gave up any pretense of strategy and started laying it in there in the low 80s.
I doubt this will be available as a full highlight anywhere, but his approach to Hawksworth's at bat was kind of entertaining. He'd get the ball back from the catcher and then start his delivery back to the plate in almost one motion. It seemed like he threw five pitches in about 10 seconds. I think he just wanted to get the inning overwith by that point.

That's a bummer, had I known Tony was going to bring in Skippy for some mound time, I would have legged it out... It was the MLB.TV free game of the day, after all...
