Irene can blow me ...

I hate hurricanes.

Re: Irene can blow me ...

I was stunned at the coverage the earthquakes received on Tuesday. I know they are rare in that part of the US, but was it that big of a deal? There were like 25 earthquakes in North America on Thursday alone.

Stay safe Artie.  On the plus side when  Irene makes landfall something will finally blow harder then the Cardinals.

I thought the coverage was a little overblown, but on the other hand we don't get 5.9 quakes here, and our buildings aren't built to the same standards as they are in Cali.
I wouldn't have known there had been an earthquake if I hadn't read about it, but we're a good distance from the epicenter anyway.

Thanks, AP. It's wobbling a bit to the west, which means we'll end up getting more wind than rain. My basement will stay drier, but we stand a better chance of losing power.
The westerly track is also good new for my dad, who lives on Cape Cod. Two days ago, the track was projecting practically over his house.

Re: Irene can blow me ...

I am lucky to have basement that stays dry.  At least to this point I have not had an issue.  I think bfore winter comes I am going to get a large generator.  Something that can run the whole house.  That way when the power goes off we dont have to worry about the house getting to cold in the winter and in the summer, spring an fall we stay cool and dry.  For the $700 it will cost me for a generator it would be well worth it.

Re: Irene can blow me ...

Irene announced its arrival at 3 p.m. our time with a thunderstorm, and we got doused for about an hour. But no wind. In fact, it's dead calm (lived near the ocean for 15 years and that's the one nautical term I've learned). We've lost power intermittently, but I suspect that's the idiots at our muni playing with the switches.
Sump pump and wet vac are ready in the basement. We have enough bread, pb&j and bottled water to last three days. Let's see what this bitch brings us ...

Re: Irene can blow me ...

I was just going to ask if you were making it.

Around here it is a winter storm that people stock up for.  Even if you dont eat bread or drink  milk you go to the store and buy it.

Re: Irene can blow me ...

The milk and bread thing has become almost a running joke here.
We're having a windy afternoon. The rain, what we got of it, stopped about noon. The only thing that didn't survive was my wife's tomato plants.

Re: Irene can blow me ...

Glad it left you unscathed.  My cousin in NYC posted a photo of a house on his block with a huge uprooted tree lying just beside it.

Thanks. I hope there were no injuries involved.
If Mel Brooks was an editor, I think tomorrow's headline around here would be, "Irene tried to blow, but she sucked."
It's a different story in western Massachusetts though. There's a video that will probably end up on the national news of a car going down a river.
