This was my sports weekend:
- The Cardinals pick up two games on the Braves by beating the Cubs in a pair of 1-run games.
- The Raiders beat the @#$%$^%ing Jets.
- ASU crushes USC and its evil coach.
- I get to watch the Patriots lose in person.
About as good as it gets, ya think?

Oh, and I met Rich Gannon at the Buffalo airport.
"Hi Rich. I've been a Raiders' fan since I was a kid."
"Were you dropped on your head a lot when you were a child?"
"Something like that. Do you mind if one of these guys takes a photo of us together?"
"You hang out with Patriots' fans?"
"Yeah, and they're constantly reminding me about the Tuck Rule."
"We got screwed, didn't we?"
"You sure did ..."

Did Gannon really ask you that first question? If so, he's a witty guy. Great weekend!

I'm guessing that's his standard question for anyone who comes up to him and says he's a Raiders' fan. Gannon and the Davis organization had a falling out a couple of years ago.
I suppose I can't blame them after losing to New England 17 straight times or something like that and watching your stadium practically getting taken over by a bunch of Massholes year after year, but BillFan was out for blood this weekend.
It was as volatile a crowd situation as I've ever encountered at an athletic event, and I've watched games in more than a dozen stadiums as an out-of-towner.
In the row behind us was a 20-something, drunk out of his gourd, who decided he was going to impress his girlfriend by challenging the most diminituve member of our traveling party to a fight, because he had the temerity to be wearing a Patriots' jersey.
The kid kind of revised his odds when he figured out there were about 15 of us in our group. I'm not small by anyone's definition, but I'm probably not even among the biggest half-dozen in our group, which includes a former rugby player at Brown who goes about 6-5, 300 pounds and has biceps that are about the size of my thighs, and a former All-Conference power forward on the Tufts basketball team, who is about 6-8. It turns out he's a kitten, but at first glance he looks meaner than Freddy Kruger in the throes of a dianabol cycle.

Rich Stadium stands out in my recollection as particularly inhospitable to fans of the opposing team.

Props to anyone who beats USC

Being an ASU fan, you probably got some insane joy watching Oregon trounce Arizona. I sure got a kick out of watching Stoops lose his fking mind every other call for the first half. He regained some sanity in the second when Arizona tried to make it a game, but that first half was nothing but wall to wall Stoops constipation highlights!

Larussa boned up the opener in this series pretty badly (Pinch hit for Carpenter, didn't bunt with Freese at 3rd, following dude hit into a DP, walked Carlos Pena to get to Soriano who hit a pitch into their bullpen, stole second in the 9th while the team was down 4 runs (WTF????)..... This is after blowing a 40 run lead in the 9th to keep from sweeping the Mets (another LaRussa blown game in my opinion).
I walked out of that Cubs game saying the Cardinals had no shot at all at making postseason, and they take 2 games in 2 days after that. I'm sticking to my guns, the Cardinals have NO SHOT AT ALL, with any luck, I can ride this reverse Psychology all the way through a world series title!
GO PHILLIES!!! GO CARDINALS!!!

This is the fifth time I've gone there and it's never been this bad. There's some back and forth, but yesterday's nonsense was really mean-spirited. And no one in my group did nothing to provoke it, unless wearing a jersey of the team you support is provocative.

I love it when Stoops-face comes out because it's a sure sign UofA is losing.
The only disappointing thing about Utah and Colorado joining the Pac 12 is ASU fans won't be able to remind UofA fans that the Wildcats are the only team in the conference that hasn't played in a Rose Bowl.
