    i heard the spiel that, being a switch hitter, la russa likes to bring punto in off the bench, which is why we are getting a steady diet of schumaker and theriot.

    Garcia has thrown 30 pitches threw 3 innings.  25 of those were strikes.

    the only chance we really missed out on was that weak strikeout by freese after the double steal.  i know what you're saying, but i think something is just wrong with hamels today, this past month, as 56 pitches to get through 3 illustrates.

    Hamels had a case of "dead arm" at the end of August and wasn't nearly as good in September as he was the rest of the year.

    Some of the pitch count is attributable to good at bats. I mean, seriously, can a player take a better at bat than Theriot just did?

    Hopefully the weak hit by Theriot, steal and IBB start to get to Hamels by at least making him pitch more.

    the freese one?  they didn't show the replay from the first base angle, so it's hard to see if he went around, but the pitch was WAY out of the strike zone and freese had no business swinging at it in any event.

    I was RIGHT about that one.

    I was right that trading Kiko Calero for Mark Mulder was a bad deal.

    And I was demonstrably right that the Cards would come back and make the playoffs . . . last season.

    Well that's three times Freese has struck out on very questionable calls, but he'd have higher moral ground to complain if he hadn't looked so bad in the rest of the at bat.

    now THAT was an impressive at bat by theriot.  he might earn david eckstein scapralicious award if he keeps that up.
