Re: 10/5 playoff gamecrap

The Glass is Half Empty says: except for a few stupid fucking mistakes yesterday we would have just wrapped this series up.

Carp only gives 100% so I wouldnt expect any less.  Halladay scares the shit out of me.  I never expect him to fail.

Or, Jackson wins Game 2, Carpenter wins Game 3 on regular rest, Garcia wins Game 4 and they don't have to beat that Halladay guy in Game 5.

How many first basemen have the balls to make that play?

What did Rollins do?

Oh god, Fors. LaRussa would eat a barbecued poodle before he'd put the tying run on base.

The Squirrel is getting a lot of face time on The Network That Shall Not Be Named in AP's Presence.

Oswalt beaned Holliday, our injured star who just got back in the line-up.  Rollins didn't do anything except drive the ball to the wall and get on base half the time.

If you watched the first inning and thought "this will be a nice way to remember E-Jax" I was there with you. That was an ugly inning.

We can speak of it now.  Dish network has it.  It is pretty awesome.  I dont have to watch a hour of sport center to get an update on the playoffs now.

The first game in St. Louis when the squirrel appeared a guy reached onto the field to grab it.  I wish he woul have got it and got the shit clawed out of him.

Re: 10/5 playoff gamecrap

Not sure how familiar you are with squirrels but I watched a buddy in tech school (Keesler AFB, Mississippi 1993) run peanuts up his pant leg, and one of the squirrels got tame enough to eat while standing on his leg. So my buddy tried to pet/pick him up. What followed was one of the worse human ass-beatings at the hand of a small rodent in recorded human history. Squirrels are a lot harder to let go of then they are to pick up.... It was fucking hilarious.

Re: 10/5 playoff gamecrap

Things I took away.

- Despite a shaky first inning, that was everything you could ask for from Jax, and something you'd have never gotten from Westbrook.
- Thank you David Freese!
- Brilliant play by Pujols to get Utley
- We really need to start getting Rollins out before this series ends, he's way too fast to be hitting .600
- Carpenter/Halladay for an elimination game. Could you ask for anything more? I'm sure that won't be enough to trump the prime time slot away from Mil/Ari.... Someone will need to explain why that is...

I'm now 0-4 in my game picks for this series, and picking the Phillies in 5. See you in the NLCS!

"Oswalt beaned Holliday"

From the replay I saw, it looked like Holliday got hit on the arm.

Here is what Pujols had to say about the subject:

""If we were the New York Yankees maybe we would have played an 8 p.m. game today,'' Pujols noted well into his postgame interview Tuesday. "... I just don't understand why we're playing a 4 o'clock game when the league knows we have tough shadows out there. But there's nothing you can do.""

"I dont have to watch a hour of sport center to get an update on the playoffs now."

A lot of it depends upon who is on the panel. I like Plesac, Magrane and Al Leiter. Mitch Williams is a lot less annoying than I thought he'd be. And I thought Mark DeRosa was pretty good last night.
The next time either Bowa or Byrnes adds something of substance will be the first.
The only show I can't watch is that "Intentional Talk" drivel with Kevin Millar and Chris Rose. Rose may be the dumbest person since Charo to appear on television, and Millar's entire persona seems contrived and self-indulgent, just like his playing career.

Re: 10/5 playoff gamecrap

My only beef with the time-slots. Well you can't compete with Bos/NYY in media, so they get prime time.

.... okay fair enough, but now you're telling me that somehow Milwaukee or Arizona are bigger draws than Philadelphia or St. Louis? I must candidly disagree with that statement. Neither Milwaukee nor Arizona can draw a stronger market share of the TV ratings as Philly or St. Louis. Add to this Philadelphia cruising with a club record in wins, and the best record in baseball, and it baffles me.

I think they need to rewrite their official priority to just simply say, "Fuck St. Louis, they don't get prime time if there's another game on." Because that really seems to be the only pattern to it.

Re: 10/5 playoff gamecrap

"Not sure how familiar you are with squirrels"

When I was a kid, we had a constant problem with raccoons. We had a family nest in our chimney. I don't remember what happened exactly, but I woke up one morning and one of the little ones was in the fireplace battling with my dad, who was brandishing a poker like Excalibur. We called the police department, which - it being in sleepy little town in which very few exciting things ever happened - responded by sending over two police units, a fire truck, and animal control. The animal control officer was a middle-aged woman with a Rubinesque figure, and personality. She used one of those noose thingies to corral the thing, which she brought outside.
Of course, the public safety presence brought every neighbor on the block out of their homes, just in time to see the animal control officer bash in the raccoon's skull with a nightstick. Kids were crying, women were screaming and grown men got pissed, including the neighbor who blamed my dad for calling the cops.
The animal kingdom got even a few years later when another raccoon got into the attic and did about $8,000 damage to the house. My dad didn't call animal control that time.

I thought I read Friday's game starts at 8:30. Has that been changed now that the other NLDS has a Game 5?

Injured right hand, hit on the right arm in his first game back . . . .  Several pitches from Oswalt were high and tight.  Does the Mafia believe in mistakes?  Or coincidences?

You don't watch much Sean Hannity, do you?  I think he has both Rose and Charo beat when it comes to dumb, and as for contrived self-indulgent TV persona, I think the only who can beat Hannity is that Tucker Carlson doofus:

Actually to this point it looks like we may indeed get that primetime spot! I gave up even looking after 3/4... Nice!

It is good for kids to see the dirtier side of life.  One good thing about working in a rural area is most people are able to take care of things like that themselfs.  Of course we still get those calls about people with a cat problem.
