NLCS Game 1

Sunday, 3 p.m.

Probables:

Garcia vs. Greinke

Given the circumstances, the Cardinals are set up very nicely. They get Garcia in Game 5, Jackson in Game 6 and Carpenter in Game 7. Hopefully Lohse closes it out on Thursday night!

I figured Loshe would be opening again.

Re: NLCS Game 1

The Phillies has 2 weeks to set their rotation against us--the best in baseball--while we had to win every single game toward the end, and still we cooked them.  We could have won any one of those five games, but for a mistake here and there and a couple of dumb pitching decisions.  Not the time to get cocky, but there's no point in not feeling the confidence of being the best team in baseball over the past 30 days or so.

Careful Max. More posts like this and you'll be working for Dewitt's PR staff.

Re: NLCS Game 1

The Phillies have won their division in each of the past five years.  The Cards have won theirs once.  When you set you sights on winning the WS, you're more likely to make the playoffs and have a crack at being the hot team in October than when you merely set your sights on baseball in October.

DeWitt won't be using me on his PR staff anytime soon.

Re: NLCS Game 1

And FWIW, let's a call a spade a spade here: that's the best infield they can play, and probably the best outfield, too.  That probably ought to be the regular starting line-up for the time being, assuming Schumaker heals up well enough.

Theriot makes neither the play Furcal made to get Ruiz, nor the play that Punto made to get . . . Ibanez(?).

Looks like Lynn and Greene are on the LCS roster.

Re: NLCS Game 1

So no K-Mac, Sanchez or Westbrook? Gotta feel some sympathy for McClellan, but entitlement has no place on a playoff roster. Let's hope this is the right formula.

do you have that confirmed somewhere?  i just posted on another thread the rumor that mcclellan and lynn would likely be added and schu and westbrook would be out, with the possibility that greene gets added.

It's posted on the team's website.

I guess it'll be just a 25-man roster:

"Kyle McClellan and Lance Lynn were added to the roster for the NLCS. They replace Skip Schumaker (oblique) and Jake Westbrook."

Re: NLCS Game 1

Seriously, though, this leaves them vulnerable at CF.  They have Jay, in whom I have a bit of confidence, although he is still relatively inexperienced.  And I guess his back-up is Chambers, who has a whopping 8 innings of experience at CF in the major leagues.  Both of those guys are lefties.  I guess the emergency CF is Craig.  This could be bad.

When you're worried about who the backup center fielder is, you're not really worried.

Re: NLCS Game 1

Add Molina and Freese to my list of concerns. Molina has caught over 1,200 innings and Freese hasn't played 100 games since 2008. Those guys are going to have find another wind.

what's the difference between a meltdown / coming unglued and simply having an off day?

Not being anywhere close to the strike zone.
