Meanwhile, in La-La Land

While we're watching the Cardinals go on another October run, Cubs fans are braying about how Chicago will soon be ruling the division. I know I'm frightened thinking about the Cardinals facing Julio Lugo 18 times a year.

In other parts of the country, La-La Land is a euphemism for Los Angeles.  I thought this would be about the Dodgers.

Cub fans mantra is "Wait 'til next year", and that's why they are celebrating 105 years of impotence (check my math).

"La-La Land is a euphemism for Los Angeles"

I always thought La-La Land was a derogatory reference. At least that's the way I perceived it during the Lakers/Celtics rivalry in the '80s.
Speaking of which, the broadcast of Game 5 of the '84 Finals was on NBA-TV last night. You'll remember that one because of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar whining about how hot it was in the un-air-conditioned Boston Garden, and him sucking on oxygen in the fourth quarter (and sucking in general; he went 7-for-25 from the floor and took no shots in the last six minutes of the game).
And the series is mostly remembered for Larry Bird's MVP performance, including grabbing nearly twice as many rebounds as Little Baby Kareem Puff. One could say Bird was positively statuesque.

Yes, that was memorable.  Nearly as memorable as the memory of Bird and Jabbar on April 30, 1971, when Jabbar's Bucks won the championship and Jabbar was named MVP, after having won the scoring title that year and the RoY the year before, while Bird on the other hand was considered one of the better basketball players in French Lick, at 15 years old.  Another fine Jabbar and Bird memory.
