There's speculation that Tony is waiting to see if old pal Sandy Alderson takes the job as Mets GM. But can anyone really picture Tony enjoying New York?
Anyway, if Tony leaves and I'm John Mozeliak, I'm getting Joe Maddon on the phone in the first five minutes and asking if he's ready to join Baseball Heaven.

I can't imagine a reason why any established manager would want that job. They're buried under several bad contracts. The owner is out of money thanks to Bernie Madoff, and if Larussa thinks that Brendan Ryan is a pain in the ass to manage, can you imagine handling Jose Reyes? Ugh.

And if he thinks Jim Hayes and the other Bernie are a pain in the ass, New York will be something that Dante couldn't have conjured.

I agree that the Mets isnt a great job to have for a guy like LaRussa who wants to win now. I also agree that the media would beat TLR to a fine dust in that town. What is the deal with Joe Madden? Is he not going to manage the Rays next year or what?

Good news is that Duncan wants to stay for 3 more years. I am less worried about TLR if Duncan stays.

I think the allure of working with Alderson again might be too hard for La Russa to resist.

Aye. If he pulls his Joy Behar act with the New York media, they'll just laugh at him.

I dont see how TLR would want to manage enough years to get the Mets back on top. They have some issues. Why would he want those problem and end his career trying to clean up a mess.

Looks like he's staying, or at least it's down to contract negotiations.

"- * - in a NY Mets uniform."
As if the memory of him in a Cubs uni wasn't enough to cheer me up ...

He's still a weirdo.
Pressed on the speculation Saturday, La Russa replied, "Fair to say my conversations are with STLC."
In almost 15 years as a diehard fan, I've never heard the Cardinals referred to as "STLC."

It's a done deal. One year with a mutual option.

Fun.

"numerous confidantes, including his wife Elaine, have encouraged him to continue."
This engenders several punch lines, not the least of which are:
"Please take their offer. I can barely stand you from November to February ..."
or
"Tony, while you're at it, call the pool boy with the 12-inch penis and offer him another 1-year deal with a mutual option."

Is Marty Mason going to become a pitching coach someplace. Our bullpen was fine and I thought the team liked Marty Mason. Seems wierd for them to let him go.

Interesting that Team La Russa let it be known that Duncan wants to coach for three more years, and that's partly what's luring La Russa back into the dugout.
The conspiracy theorist in me can't help but notice that in three years La Russa will have passed McGraw. Either that's a stunning coincidence, or Duncan is taking one for his buddy's ego here.

I just found out who Joy Behar is by reading a story on Juan Williams. Damn, I hope NPR doesn't have a spy in my classrooms.

I didn't know who Joy Behar was until I saw The Hangover, so I'm only trailing you slightly.
Is Juan Williams really that much of a moron that he thinks someone dressed like King Faisal is going to walk into an airport, collect a boarding pass and blow up a plane? It's the terriorist trying NOT to look like King Faisal who's the threat.
And before we all start holding bake sales to benefit Juan Williams, champion of free speech, I guess Fox snapped him up for the next two years at $1.5 million per.

I fined it interesting that ownership wants to empower Luhnow by getting rid of people who speakout agianst him but give TLR an open invitation to come back. It makes me think that the invitation wasnt as welcoming as it seems.

If either side really wanted to go in a different direction, he wouldn't have come back. Tone was probably just playing his "How Much Do You Love Me?" game for a week or two.

Good points in your post and I'll leave it at that. My bad for getting the subject too political.

"My bad for getting the subject too political."
Me too. I had just read a quote from that nitwit Palin about the whole thing and got a little unglued.
