I wouldnt say that.  Every call has a larger effect on a game and series.  It the call doesnt get blown at first then maybe the starter stays in the game longer.  Maybe the bullpen doesnt get abused so much and gives them a bigger selection of pitchers tonight.  It still isnt a reason to dwell on such things.  A team cant throw a series away because of one missed call. 


Holliday's throw to the play was close.  I believe he was out.  Either way it was close and not worth debating.

Now you sound like that dipshit on FOX.  Yes, the starter got pulled but realistically, how much longer was he going to last on a night that ended up 16-7?  Yeah the Cards scored 4 in the 4th, but even if he had gotten out of that inning on the Jay grounder, he had alread surrendered the Craig homer and Holliday single in the first, and we assume the Berkman single and Freese double in the 4th.  AND the Cards went on to score three more in the 5th. 

Yes, there are some 'what if's', but my point is that Texas did not play well on defense, their pitching was not strong, and the Cards blew them away.  So, bringing up these 'what if's' now, given the outcome, is kind of like Muammar Khaddafi down in Hell asking 'what if' he had said, "PLEASE don't shoot" instead of just, "Don't shoot."

that won't work, because provocateurs could easily be planted among the home town fans to cause a ruckus and get the home team penalized.

a better solution, IMO, is to criminalize, so that they face fines and jail time, and not just getting kicked out.

Either way would work fine.  Soon fans would just not do it.  Walking someone out of the park in a blowout isnt much punishment.

I don't think anyone who would throw a wiffle ball onto a field like that has the brains to pull off such a ruse.

The one with the brains is the guy who would get him to do it.  This is how provocateurs get bad press for things like "Occupy [wherever]", and probably the "Tea Party", too.  Very old trick.
