You can't even blame the guy who took the chicken wings order for confusing "Hot" with "Motte."

- Allen Craig was thrown out stealing, not once, but twice in the last 3 innings of the game.
- Scrabble gave up the eventual winning hit to Mike Napoli because when Larussa called to the bullpen, he ordered a cheese pizza, the bullpen coach thought he ordered breadsticks, and the driver actually delivered chicken wings.
- Lance Berkman, who has probably been playing baseball since he was 2, forgot that when the catcher drops strike three with two outs, you can run to first and perhaps extend the inning.
Craig was probably running because of hit and runs called by Pujols. The first time Pujols didn't swing and Craig was nailed. The second time, probably feeling shitty about the first time, Pujols swung at a ball, struck out, and Craig was nailed.
The BP thing was weird, but not as bad as people are making it out to be. Scrabble had struck out the three righties he had faced up to that point.
In fairness to Berkman, you can see he did not realize the ball had been dropped. He thought he had swung, missed, and struck out. OTOH, given the situation, maybe he should have just took off toward first base on that whiff with the HOPE that the catcher would drop it, seeing as that was his only hope.

Luckily I turned off after the 15th missed opportunity so I didn't get to witness La Russa's managing boners. That was painful.
This crap that the loss is La Russa's fault is more of the same old anti-La Russa bullshit that's been going on since the draft Ozzie movement of the 1990's Did La Russa tell them to whiff, flail, and hit into double plays every time a man was in scoring position? This loss is squarely on the shoulder's of the guys who went 1 for 11 with RISP (or whatever the final total was). Bat somewhere near the team average and we would have had the 2 runs we needed to tie.

FWIW, Larussa's getting killed more on the national level than locally. Locally, blame is being placed on the poor hitting with RISP.
Also, heard an interview this morning with Izzy. He said they had 4 occasions this season in New York where the bench and bullpen made mistakes similar to what happened last night. On one occasion, the manager told the BP coach to send in a player who hadn't warmed up yet.

Man did I make the right move turning that game off. Let me see if I understand what happened:

They say ignorance is bliss. In this case, it may have been life-saving. I can't imagine the effect those last three innings would have had on my blood pressure. Not to mention the likelihood that I would have launched a remote through the television.
So we have an off-day, the sky is perfectly blue and the temperature is expected to reach 80. We've had comparable weather for the last 5 days. Tomorrow it's expected to reach a high of 55 and it's supposed to rain all day.
Maybe it'll rain so much that they'll get another day off to work on the basics!

So - if it rains enough to reschedule the game - and they win the Thursday game - will they play a makeup on Friday night?

The worst thing about Sirius is Rob Dibble. He said this morning that managers and bullpen coaches have visual cues (Dibble didn't say which one was for him. I'm assuming Pinella threw some white trash onto the field) and then followed it up with this:
"If LaRussa wanted Motte, he could have made a move to his chin like 'I want the guy with the beard ....'"
Off the top of my head, that would have narrowed Lilliquist's choices last night to Motte, Lynn, Westbrook and Boggs.

So last nights game. Let's just recap. If this was a blind date, this is how it would go.
You pick up a lady-friend on a referral, she is absolutely gorgeous! You compliment her outfit, and she smiles and gives you a kiss. You get in the car with high hopes! You tell her you made reservations at The Melting Pot, she replies "I hate fondeaux". You quickly shift gears and offer up Joe's Crab Shack, "I'm a vegan" is the reply. You say, "Let's go to the city", she says "Avoid the city at all costs, too much crime!" You offer up "Crazy Bowls and Wraps" being that it's the only place you think will fit. She glares at you and tells you she was hoping for a nicer evening then that. Then she demands you take her back home, and twice chews your ass for speeding. At the end of the evening you go home, fire up a web browser, and palm it to free porn.
That's basically what happened. The sad thing is, this is twice in 5 games that it's happened, and instead of winning this series 4-1, we're down 3-2 and facing long odds.

While that qualifies for the "classic post" thread, I think I may have met this woman.

A rainy day would be HUGE at this point, as it would bring back Carp for a potential game 7.
Not sure what we'd do for a game 7 played on schedule, but I think I'd consider Dotel and turn the whole thing over to the bullpen.

That was directed more at TK, than the local media.

Give it a rest, Mrs. La Russa. Nobody is saying that the guys who couldn't buy a hit off a struggling CJ Wilson aren't to blame. In fact, I said I turned off the game AFTER the 15th missed opportunity (indicating that I couldn't watch after another scoreless inning with runners on base) and that was probably being conservative.
So your statement that I'm pinning the loss on La Russa is wrong. I'll be waiting for your correction.

Carp on three days rest is a gamble, but I suppose you'd have to take it. A rainout also puts Holland back in play.
As far as a Game 7 on schedule is concerned, I'd start Lilliquist and then give everyone in the bullpen one inning each.

You'll be waiting awhile, I suspect. The only time Max is wrong is when he points out to people how often he admits he's wrong. (Gay smiley-face emoticon)

(grin).........and all this time , I thought it was the shit-eatin' grin emoticon .
....after further review, I guess there's no difference .

Who is waiting for what correction?
You're on my list now, Artie. I don't mind being wrong, but I don't like accused of being wrong about being wrong.

Well, I didn't actually say that you said it was La Russa's fault. I had originally drafted it in response to Fors, who hadn't said it either. I think it was the random blogger who said it. But yours was the most anti-LaRussian post, and you have long beat the drum of "La Russa has to go". So I pulled it from my response to Fors and put it after yours. But you are correct. You didn't blame La Russa for last night's loss in that post, and perhaps my post would have been better on it's own, and not in response to anything. Artie, anyway, can usually pick up when one of my "pitcher wins are the dumbest stat in baseball" posts is secretly designed as a knee to his groin, so maybe you would have picked up that it was directed at you, any which old way I posted it.
