Re: Merry X-Mass

Same to you and yours! We already got a couple of decent gifts: A Belt(ran) and a Fur(cal). We'll have to get some more wear out of our old Schu and hope Matheny doesn't bring a "Methaney" smell to the field. At least we have a happy Holliday.

Before my ban for terrible puns starts, I want to say that this board provides a great diversion and I'm glad to have all of your opinions and observations to read. Even those that are obviously crazy and/or wrong.

Re: Merry X-Mass

Was out to California for a few days visiting the In-Laws and having to put up with 55-60 degree winter days. Those poor bastards, I don't know how they survive. My heater crapped out and it was 56 degrees INSIDE MY F**KING HOUSE.

Three doggies and electronics have the temp back up to 61, but that's still nippy for inside.

Re: Merry X-Mass

Wood stove is up and going here.  We can keep it around 70 degree throughout the day but when we go to bed we have to load it up.  We wake up to a sana every morning.  I guess to much heat in the winter is better then the other way around.

Funny thing.  Knowing this board.  I read that as "Same to you and up yours."

Re: Merry X-Mass

A lot of those CA homes don't have proper heat, and it can get pretty cold inside when the weather turns bad.

Up With People!

I'm not sure this was the intent of this thread, but I worked with a guy who toured with Up With People for a couple of years. He said it was like being in a cult.

Re: Merry X-Mass

My sixth-grade teacher was a huge fan, so we heard a lot of their stuff back then. Selfsame teacher was the sister of one of my classmates, and this apparently was her first and last year in the profession. We (at least the boys) were total assholes to her. I wouldn't be surprised to find that she either joined Up With People or sent them threatening letters after the school year.

The guy I worked with said it was like indentured servitude. You have to pay to join, your behavior is closely monitored, and "immoral activity" is grounds for dismissal. Not that anything untoward would be expected when you stick a bunch of late teens and early 20s on a bus for half a year at a time.
But hey, it's show business ...
