Cubs to pay $15M of the $18M owed.
Bonus points if you can name the first Marlin he throws a punch at

"Zambrano has a $19 million vesting option for 2013 if he finishes in the top four for the Cy Young Award."
He has a better chance of being named Venezuela's ambassador to the U.N.

After giving it about 30 seconds consideration, this question answers itself. I can't wait to watch Sportscenter the night Big Z is on the mound and someone drops a bunt down the third base line only to discovery that Hanley couldn't be bothered to play defense because, after all, he's a shortstop.
A dugout with Reyes, Ramirez and Big Z with Ozzie Guillen at the helm. What could possibly go wrong?

Might be worth following Logan Morrison on Twitter this year ...

3mill for Zamboner. I would still pass but LOL at the Cubs. They had to get him out so bad that they had to pay 15 of 18 mill. un-fucking-real.
As for the second part. I pick Ozzie. God I hope its Ozzie.

Give Theo some credit. He's purging all of the shit that has held that franchise back for the past few years. If they could make a similar deal to dump Soriano, they could at least officially begin the process of rebuilding.

I do give them credit for dumping them. It is the right move. I just cant believe a guy can be that big of a dick to be paid that much just to go away. The whole thing is funny when you throw in Ozzie. Him and Zambrano might be the two biggest dicks in baseball. It a ticking time bomb. On the other hand it scares me alittle. Theo has already shown he isnt going to walking around in the dark like the last guy.

Remember how happy CubFan was when Soriano signed? It was the continuation of The Dynasty. That might the worst contract for a position player in the history of baseball. Either Soriano or Vernon Wells.

Cueto would be a dick, if he had one.

I would throw Pujols in there as well. It is going to be that bad. It might not be that clear today but 10 years from now we will be laughing at the Angles.

The Pujols contract will not likely be a good deal, economically, but he'd have to start sucking almost immediately, and continue sucking for 10-20 years for his contract to bring as little value as the Soriano contract did.

I think you will be suprised how the Soriano and Pujols contracts compare. Soriano was very good in 2007 and 2008 when he was making below his market value. Since then he has slipped. Pujols ablity to walk sets him apart. Pujols is the same age as Soriano was when he signed with the Cubs. In 5 year I wouldnt be suprised if Pujols puts up the 26/88/.250 line Soriano put up this past year. Pujols will be making 10 million more then Soriano to do it. Only time will tell but Pujols wont be the 300/30/100 player he is now forever. I dont blame Soriano for being played out of position.

My guess is that Pujols could play at all-star level for another 5 years, and be a very good DH for 2-3 years after that. But on the other hand I wouldn't be surprised if this whole affair turns into the metaphorical cutting of Samson's hair, and he suffers big declines out of the box. We'll just have to see.
But one thing that clearly separates the two is that Soriano is not going to Cooperstown and will never have any ancillary value from reaching baseball milestones.

He never had a defensive position. He was worse at second base than he's been in the outfield. He was a DH. Which makes the notion an NL team signed him to an 8-year contract when he was 31-years-old even more absurd.

I thought about that after I posted it. They did try and play him in CF for a short time. The Cubs have rarely used him at second. Still in comparison to Pujols we are talking about a guy who should be a DH and one that is going to end up there.

It was bad enough that Soriano didn't have a position, but I seem to remember that he was vocal enough about his displeasure for playing left field that he and his manager in Washington had a well-publicized spat about it that may have involved Soriano being benched.
So naturally, the Cubs sign his to an 8 year deal to play left field.

Just to set the record straight. I dont think Pujols and Soriano are comparable players. I do think there is a very good chance that their current contracts will be comparabley bad.
