Re: Cards/McClellan reach agreement

I am  becoming a big fan of 1 year deals, especially pitchers . ( I understand that my fanship of such, is a dream) .

Re: Cards/McClellan reach agreement

Over the weekend, one of the local news channels played an interview with Berkman during Winter Warm-up that was extremely refreshing.  The gist of his statement was that at his age, he didn't see why he was entitled to anything more than a 1 year deal and that each year it was his responsibility to prove himself capable of playing the following year.

Part of me wondered if he was taking a not-so-veiled shot at Pujols, because Berkman ended with something to the effect of "why should a team agree to pay me an exhorbitant amount of money when I'm too old for my performance to justify the salary."

Re: Cards/McClellan reach agreement

McCellan got paid 1.3mill last year so he got a nice raise.

Berkman seems like a pretty cool guy.  He talks alot.  Ive heard a few statements fro him that migh not have been the best but he seems really honest.  I like honest people.

There's a difference between being honest and being blunt. I can't say whether he was trying to tweak Pujols without seeing the clip, but it would be poor form if he did. One of the reasons I didn't like Berkman when he was with the Astros was because of some of the comments he made about teammates. It's OK to call out a teammate, but keep it in the clubhouse.

Of course, Berkman has the security of already having made enough money that he never has to work another day in his life if he doesn't want to.

I'd guess that the same could be said for most major leaguers Berkman's age. Look at a guy like Ludwick. He didn't get a full time major league job until he was about 28, but he's made what, $15-20M over the last 3 seasons?

If I had it to do over again, I'd be Carl Pavano. The guy has parlayed one good season into about $65 million.

Good call. Didn't he also bang Alyssa Milano for a while?

And so has Pujols.

That was Brad Penny. He hooked up with several hot movie stars while he was with the Dodgers. Maybe Chad can confirm whether he's hung like a moose. I don't know how you go about phrasing that kind of question, though.

Apparently Pavano hooked up with her too.

How much of a groupie do you have to be to earn your own page on baseballreference.com?

I asked last night at the hockey game.  Chad said Penny's tenure with the Cardinals didn't require him to shower enough times for anyone to have noticed.

Good point. And when he did shower, it was usually while his teammates were still on the field.

Major League II isn't a great movie, and certainly not as good as the first, but it has it's moments. Among the best is when Charlie Sheen's character shows up neatly-groomed and well-attired to a fancy restaurant while the Indians' game is still in progress:
Valet: "Mr. Vaughn? I thought you were starting tonight."
Vaughn: "I did."
Valet: "Sorry. I didn't tune in until the second inning."
