Holliday

Pretty cool story on Holliday.  I think Cardinals fans may be more lucky to have this guy than we realize.

Re: Holliday

Good for Matt, hope he has an injury free year , and uses an ear screen for moths in the outfield....

Re: Holliday

Yeah, no question fans have been overly harsh on Holliday.

In other news, a former Cardinal outfielder is making Didi Pujols seem like a great public speaker.

"Like his Cardinals predecessor of 12 to 15 years ago, J.D. Drew, Rasmus seems to have little desire to be a great player.

"I guess I don't want the responsibility of being one," Rasmus said. "I'd rather just be a man on the team."

If I'm Corby's GM, I clip that for his next contract negotiation.

That part didnt bother me because I think it is honesty.  I am sure there are alot of players that think like that.  The thing that made me sick was him crying about St. Louis.  Nobody was his age in St. Louis.  TLR wouldnt play grab ass.  Blah Blah Blah, what a bitch.

I do think it is funny he is cutting Tony Rasmus off.  TLR tried to do that his whole STL career.

I love his notion the notorious St. Louis media was dogging him. A couple of years ago, I felt badly for the kid when I read Ankiel was giving him a hard time, but it's hard to communicate with a guy who wants to hide in the corner and be left alone.

Very true.  Soon people think of that person as some anti-social wierdo.  I think Rasmus is fine with being the star.  He just didnt knw how to deal with failing.

He also clearly has no clue how to deal with the media, and I'm guessing he didn't get much help from the people around him in the clubhouse in that regard.

I did enjoy the crack about him liking Toranto because it was like New York only the  people were nicer.

Re: Holliday

The sense I got reading this Rasmus story and the other interview he did about a week ago is that he doesn't want to work.  He wants things back the way they were in high school and the minors when he could go through the motions and have everyone tell him how great he was.  He reached the big leagues and TLR and the veterans actually expected him to work harder to improve, whereas Corby just wants to be left alone.  He's perfectly content being mediocre.

Re: Holliday

I awlays compared Rasmus to Drew because of his whining.  Now I am starting to think that is unfair to JD.

Toronto is a quaint little village compared to NYC. Good and bad, there's no place like New York City.

Drew is no dummy. I really didn't hear him speak until he signed with Boston, and one of the local radio shows had him a guest. The hosts thought they were going to skewer him, but he's a reasonably eloquent speaker and came off as likeable.
He had one great month here. I think it was June 2008. Red Sox Fan was doing the "Droooooooo" chant and he almost became a celebrity. And then just as quickly he faded back into the shadows. It was like he spent five years in anonymity, which is almost impossible to do if you play for the Red Sox.

I'd be more apt to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's still a young kid who isn't very bright. He doesn't know what he wants, and he certainly doesn't know how to articulate what he wants.

Re: Holliday

I think years of living with that overbearing stage father and being in Alabama have warped him. I was sad to see him go because of his immense talent, but damn if this kid doesn't have some issues.

Rasmus comes off as a dumb hick that think the word eloquent is a flavor of BBQ.  I would be really suprised if his career doesnt crash and burn.

That may be because he is a dumb hick.
