Team Harris Coaches Comp. SOS
1. Auburn (4) 3rd 3rd 1st 10th
2. Oregon (2) 1st 1st 8th T-112th
3. Boise St. (3) 2nd 2nd 6th 77th
4. TCU (5) 4th 4th 4th T-58th
5. Michigan St. (7) 5th 5th 3rd T-13th
6. Missouri (11) 8th 8th 2nd 8th
7. Alabama (8) 6th 6th 12th 81st
8. Utah (9) 7th 7th 10th 119th
9. Oklahoma (1) 11th 11th 5th T-13th
10. Wisconsin (13) 9th 9th 9th 56th
11. Ohio St. (10) 10th 10th 11th 47th
12. LSU (6) 12th 13th 6th 11th
13. Stanford (12) 13th 14th 14th 54th
14. Nebraska (16) 14th 12th 15th T-33rd
The comp rating is the BCS ranking of sorts, which makes up 33% of a teams overall standing in the BCS poll. The other 67% is based off the Harris and Coaches poll. The AP (rightly so) refused to put it's weight behind the BCS formula and awards it's own National Champion, usually the same as the BCS, but not always.
My bitch is simply that Oregon lists 8th on the computer , like they did last week. LSU despite losing is 6th on the computer, Oklahoma is 5th on the computer. Oregon sits at 8th. I think that the computers aren't weighing losses hard enough. You have TCU, BSU, Oregon, Missou, Auburn, Michigan State, Utah all standing undefeated, it's important for losses to count in my opinion.
Adding to the confusion? TCU.... They have a 9 point win over Oregon State (ranked 24 at the time). This is good enough for 4th in the computer. Utah (same conference) beats then #15 Pittsburgh by 3, and they are 10th. Neither team played any other close games. In the meantime Oregon beat #9 Stanford by 21 points. This makes them 8th. Not to knock Missou, but beating Oklahoma by 9 puts them 2nd on the computer despite no other ranked opponents.
If anyone can find a logical pattern in that, I'd love to hear it. I could make more sense out of a blind man throwing darts.

I see what you're saying. Sorry if I sounded like an idiot.

nah no worries, Auburn at 1 is okay, I have no issue with that. They've had games against South Carolina (12), Arkansas (12) and now LSU (6). To be perfect through that is pretty awesome.
My questions come in where you have the teams with the losses like Oklahoma.
Games in the season to note.
Home vs Air Force (win 27-24)
Away Cincinnati (win 31-29)
Sure you beat Texas at home 28-20, but so what? UCLA destroyed them in Austin!
I don't understand how you can squeak out games against mediocre opponents, have one convincing win against a ranked school (Home vs Florida State #17 47-17) and still get the #5 computer standing.
I would be okay if it was a weighted Strength of Schedule that dictated the position in that computer, but it doesn't appear to care how much you win by, it doesn't seem to care if you lose, depending on who you lose to. When you think of the TCU/Oregon example below, it doesn't appear to really care about the rankings of the teams you beat either, but Missouri/Oklahoma bouncing Missou up to #2 on the computer would dictate otherwise.
TCU beats the #24 team Oregon State (since unranked) by 9, no other ranked opponents and they get 4th on the computer?
Oregon beats #9 ranked Stanford (now 13th) by 21, no other ranked opponents, no other close games, and they get 8th on that same computer?
I'd just love for one of those pocket protector toting math nerds to explain what home cooked Crystal Meth they were baking when they came up with this ranking system

Oregon -- USC
Things I don't like.
Location, this game is in USC, this is a place where we haven't won in like 12 years.
Attitude, USC despite an enormous amount of talent is paying Reggie Bush's price and looks to this as their bowl game. This is without a doubt the biggest game on their schedule, and with no hope of a Rose Bowl, or anything else ending in Bowl, this is their Bowl. They will bring everything they have.
Timing. USC coming off a bye week to play this game, I hate games like that. That's how Alabama got knocked off. Teams with extra prep seem to eliminate Oregon's offense a lot more easily. Countering this a bit, Oregon has some extra time too, having played their last game on a thursday.
Things I like.
Computer bullshit. The only poll we're not number 1 in is the one that matters, and being put 8th has to be something of an insult and even a motivator for this group.
USC has owned us historically. Last year we broke through on them, but this is a team the Oregon hates, and nearly everyone on the roster has had their ass kicked severely by USC, that's also motivating.
Ranked game. This is a big deal on the top stage against for Oregon, against a very good football team. This is the kind of game you hope for as an aspiring contender. A strong team who you should beat.
Lane Kiffen coaching USC, and not Pete Carroll.
Prediction: I honestly think this will be something like the UCLA game with the exception that USC will score points too. I don't see USC stopping the Oregon offense, but Barkley will do a lot better job keeping it closer then UCLA. 62-41 Oregon wins. USC punts 7 times, Oregon punts 4.

This is going to be easy, Alz. Oregon is going to be running up and down the field all night.

LOL. Great second half, Trojans.

"62-41 Oregon wins"
I had the margin right, but both teams punted a little more than I thought they would.

Next up Washington. This game doesn't worry me. There's no way Oregon should lose this game, it's at home, and Washington is 3-5. That said, this is a losable game if they don't come to play. Chip Kelly won't let that happen. Oregon in a romp 58-7.

Not to dwell on the negative, but the Ducks don't have the advantage of Lane Kiffin coaching the opposing team anymore.
The only land mine left in the regular season is the University to Arizona game. The Puddy Tats can play a little defense.

I'm going to take the Oregon faithful approach and say that @Cal and @Oregon State are also games to be wary of. Since that's 3 of the remaining 4 games, I'm gonna go ahead and be wary of Washington too.
Still though, USC was a major hurdle and it's out of the way. Four games to go!!

I feel incredibly stupid for having acted like Jake Locker is the second coming of John Elway.
Oregon 55
Washington 6

Here's something to add. Apparently my wife is awesome. I have her permission to buy an airline ticket to phoenix and get a seat to the game should Oregon get into it. GO DUCKS!!!!!!!!!

A lot of people were on that bandwagon two months ago.
My college roommate still reminds me on a weekly basis I once dubbed Everick Sullivan the Next Michael Jordan.

OK, the night after you arrive, go to Pinnacle Peak for dinner. Don't wear a tie.
For night time entertainment, find one of the party patios on Scottsdale Road and just camp out. If you're looking for something a little more titilating at night, there are a couple of spots downtown on Van Buren, but for heaven's sakes be careful, and whatever you do stay out of the money pits near the 202 in Tempe. The only thing you'll be left with is an empty wallet and blue balls.

Blue balls??? You mean the all-night bingo parlor lets you take home the bingo pellets?
Empty wallet. Blue balls. You were talking about bingo, right?

Locker apparently won't be playing at all. I feel sorry for that goddamned Oregon mascot.... He's going to end up ripping off about 350 pushups on Saturday.

It's awfully convenient that injury crept up with him having sucked the last two games. His agent **ahem, cough, cough, ahem, ahem**, I mean his personal advisor--after all, college kids don't have agents--must have told him that an injury would save his draft status.

"With Locker out, redshirt freshman Keith Price will make his first career start in one of the most difficult environments in college football."
When is the last time a CF team scored more than 100? Was it Neil Lomax's Portland State team?

Neil Lomax. Wow, there's a name from the St. Louis sports past. Used to love watching that guy sling it to Roy Green.

Careful, or I'll drop a Roger Wehrli reference on your head.

No need. In the game against Oklahoma, when Gahn McGaffie returned the opening kickoff for a score, it was the first time a Missouri kick returner had returned the opening kickoff for a score since Roger Wehrli in 1967.
