Back by popular demand!

Yes, folks, it's time to revive the ultra-popular Zack Cozart Walk Watch!
Our boy has been holding steady at 38 PAs in the majors without a base on balls since we had to curtail the ZCWW upon his season-ending injury, but he's back in the lineup today, batting second in front of Joey Votto, meaning he's not likely to see a pitch outside the strike zone.
So, one and all, step up. No pushing, please. Place your wagers to see how long the ZCWW will last: Memorial Day? Fourth of July? Labor Day? Until he's traded to another team and has to face Aroldis Chapman?

Re: Back by popular demand!

The Cubs convince Todd Wellemeyer to come out of retirement. He comes in to face Cozart in a one-run game and promptly walks him on five pitches, glaring at the ump after every pitch. He's pulled and the Cubs go to whatever lefty they are trotting out this season. Votto deposits a pitch into the upper deck and the Reds go on to win.

After the game, it's revealed to Wellemeyer that it's the first time Cozart ever walked in his career. Wellemeyer shrugs and says he was just unlucky. His Cubs career winds up lasting as long as Pedro Borbon with the Cardinals in 2003.

Very nice! The judges also would have accepted "Anthony Reyes" in the place of Wellemeyer.

Re: Back by popular demand!

A sturdy 2-for-4 with a double yesterday. ZCWW watchers got a little nervous in the 5th and then again in the 7th when our boy showed a modicum of patience and managed to run a couple of counts to 2-2, but he bailed us out by taking a called third in the former and slapping a pitch outside the strike zone over the first baseman's head during the latter.
Official tally is now 42 major league PAs without a base on balls.

3-for-4 with a homer today, but no walks in an 8-3 loss, as Miami feasted on the principal of The Worst Trade Since Brock-for-Broglio.
The ZCWW stands at 46 PAs.

"as Miami feasted on the principal of The Worst Trade Since Brock-for-Broglio."

Doesn't matter. According to Danny, Latos goes 23-1 from this point forward.

And still doesn't win the Cy Young, if my memory is correct.

Re: Back by popular demand!

I believe this board was crushing Bean for signing Cespedes calling it unmoneyballish and a waste of resources on a rebuilding team.

Well, that may prove to be the case... but I'll bet it doesnt. That guy is crazy strong, looks like the genuine article to me.

My opinion was/is that Cesedes is very moneyballish and very Bean like.  Undervalued and some they can flip.

Re: Back by popular demand!

Some team will get a chance at Cespedes.  He is signed for a reasonable low amount if he can crank 20 plus homers a season and I am sure Bean can wait to ask the moon for him.

Well, even if the kid wins the triple crown, the A's are still going to finish no better than third place, 15-20 games behind the Rangers and the Angels.
Beane reminds me of a guy who finishes near the bottom of our NCAA pool every year because he picks wild upsets. Every once in awhile, a 14 knocks off a 3 and everyone tells him how smart he is, but he's out by the second weekend because he's got Northern Arizona, McNeese State, Princeton and Slippery Rock in the Final Four.

Re: Back by popular demand!

Sadly, the ZCWW came to a close today when our boy drew his first career BB in the eighth inning. That's one walk in 50 PAs, or a rate of about 12 per season.
