Komatsu. They can't send him to the minors unless they give the Nationals something for him.

That is my point.  Right now the clubs depth chart for centerfield includes:
Jay
Beltran
Skip
Komatsu
Robinson
Chambers

Why not just cut Komatsu now.  The club has people they have invested themselfs in.  They are all as much centerfield options as Komatsu.  Why not cut him and promote from within.  That is what the club has said it believes in and why compensate the Nationals for something the club already has plenty of.

"Why not just cut Komatsu now."

The only thing I can I think of is there's an element of thievery when it comes to the Rule 5 draft. "Hey, we put one over on the Nats and got a major leaguer ..."

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

I completely forgot about this, but another thing that likely keeps Greene on the roster--he's out of options.

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

Well at least we're not paying him 17 million. Sigh @ Holliday...

This roster will be limited once everyone gets back, assuming that happens.

Berkman, 1b and rf but not like rf because there are a ton of better options and hes the worst fielding outfielder on the team.
Beltran, RF and CF but not likely to much in center.  They havent played him there yet.
Freese, 3b only
Greene, 2b,3b,ss but he cant hit is weight
Delscalso,  He isnt hitting either but can play 2b,3b,ss
Skip, outfield and 2b,  might actually get time at second if the above options dont hit.  he isnt an upgrade in the outfield over
        anyone in production or fielding.
Carpenter, hard to send down but wont see alot of time when Berkman and Craig are on the team.
Furcal, going to get 90% of the time at ss
Molina, going to get 90% of the time at c
Cruz, hits and can play several position but will be bench because nobody used their backup catcher.
Craig,  Ist going to take many at bats away from Berkman, Freese, Beltran or Holliday.  Likely will be splitting time with Carpenter
Jay, Will get alot of time in CF with Skip being the only other real option on the team.
Holliday, 95% of the time in LF

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

What I am saying is that they only have two positions that they can rotate players, 2b and cf.  The options for those positions dont involve guys that will increase production.

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

Matheny has already shown he's unafraid to use his bench with a healthy roster so I don't have any doubt that Carpenter and Craig will get their at-bats.

I got into a huge argument with people over at VEB yesterday about the merits of Tyler Greene. Apparently that's the last outpost of Greene fandom where they hold his Triple A numbers (accomplished after the age of 25) in high esteem. Yes, some of you might watch Greene and think "wow, he's terrible." But there? They think he's amazing.

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

Ive noticed that on VEB.  They think he is pretty awesome.  I suppose 10 games isnt enough to judge.  Before the season is over we will know and  I dont like his odds.

Are you Tackle Box?

Me? Nah, I'm blindmouse. I didn't even realize Tackle Box posted at VEB. I'm more familiar with him at Turf Show Times.

How many forums do you post on?  One is time consuming enough.

I cant follow VEB forum.  It seems random.

He hasnt actually had a healthy roster much.  He sent out the same guys three days in a row then Berkman hurt his fingure.  Carpenter played for Berkman for a game.  Now Carpenter has subed in for him because of a bum calf.  Freese and Jay both sat two games but Freese was out one of those becase of whatever injury he has now.  Beltran sat out the last game vs the Reds.

They dont have an everyday second baseman and other then that Matheny has sat available everyday players

3B-1
RF-1
CF-2

So if Craig and Carpenter were on the team Matheny would have only used them one time a piece.  Of course that might have changed if Craig was actually on the team.  Still I dont see how Matheny has used the bench with a healthy roster.  He hasnt sat starters by choice but a couple times.

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

Remember that he used a La Russa Getaway Day Special four games into the season, then sat most of his starters with a chance to sweep against Cincy. I don't think there's any question that Matheny will use his subs on the regular.

I think he'll mix and match well but he hasnt dont it in a way that would have result in more at bats for the two people I mentioned.

The get away lineup still had Holliday, Beltran and Freese in the lineup.  Carpenter played for the injured Berkman (remember the hand injury that he almost sat out the first game vs the Reds?).  If Berkman would have been available he likely would have played since the other big bats did.  Molina even got two at bats on his off day.  Jon Jay sat but that had little to do with a get away day line up and more to do with Randy Wolf being on the mound.

He did role out the B team vs the Reds in TLR style.  He kind of waved the white flag facing their ace.  Thats the day he rest his starting RFer, 3b and 1B.

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

I think we'll see Craig worked in slowly, maybe one start a week but always the first option off the bench.

Then as he gets healthier I think Matheny will start him at first base over Berkman, then a couple days later over Beltran, then maybe half a game for David Freese, and a spot start here and there for Holliday.

Carpenter will get ample time since he's a third baseman by trade and one with a pretty good defensive reputation. I think he'll start at least once a week there, and also be in the mix for a couple of spot starts at second base.

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

Really, Carpenter at second.  That is interesting.  I didnt remember him being so skinny.  He isnt build like a power hitter of today.  I like the idea.  Of course Ive been supportive of such moves before and it didnt work out in the long run.  Still anybody getting playing time over Greene is a plus.  I like Delscalso but I dont see him as an everyday player.  His ceiling is as a super utility player.

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

They can always get Rick Ankiel back to play third.
Speaking of Ankiel, anyone see the at bat he had against Aroldis Chapman the other day? Three fastballs down the cock and then a right turn. I think Ankiel started one of his swings during the return throw from the catcher.
At least Chapman took mercy on him and didn't try to throw him a slider.

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

I have no idea why Ankiel is still in the majors.  Him and Mather are giving me flashbacks.  I am kind of happy to see the Nationals winning some games.

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

In case anyone is wondering Octavio Dotel has struke out 6 in 3 innings not allowing a run so far this year.  Edwin Jackson had a pretty good first start followed by and average second.  He is 1-0.  Nick Punto is batting .333 in 12 AB with 3 RBIs.

I showed that clip to my wife last night and she said "With an arm like that, how come he's not a pitcher?"
Long story, m'dear. Long story.

Re: 4/15 Gamecrap

I figure out why he is still playing.  His fielding is average.  He doesnt take great routes.  He can only hit one pitch and he doesnt even hit it well.  Id be really suprised if he ever hit .250 again.
