If you want to maintain that the recent scarcity of Indian attacks, coupled with the fact that most people now buy their food from the local grocery has reduced the need for the average citizen to own guns, I would agree.  But the Amendment doesn't limit one's right to keep and bear arms based upon need.

I dont think we are disagreeing with eachother but I wouldnt discount the need for guns in todays world.  I grew up around guns and never used them for home defense.  They were only used for pest control, hunting and killing farm animals that we were getting ready to butcher.  I am sure most people dont use guns in those manners anymore.  I, other then hunting, dont.  Still you cant take it away from the people who do use them for those reason.  I think if Artie was exposed to guns growing up in the manner that I was his opinion of them would be different.

Agreed AP.  But I think one of the issues that Artie has, and with which I would agree, is that there are too many guns in the hands of people who don't respect the gun.  You grew up around them and were likely taught very early on how to use them and the dangers in handling them.  Becuse of that, you aren't likely to accidentally shoot your kids in the head twirling a loaded gun on your finger like the lone ranger.

I have never been hunting once in my life, but I still have my Baretta and my back up pistol in the house.  I've also taken the time to show them to my kids and let them handle them (unloaded) to eliminate whatever curiosity they may have about the guns.  I've never taken either to the range, although Bob is getting to the age where I may do so soon, but I've never been concerned that either of them would treat one of the guns as a toy.

Re: so ... help me out before I get myself fired

I havent really thought about when is the right time to expose kids to guns.  I think it is a bridge I will cross by exposing them to hunting.  That is how I learned.  Being that they are girls I doubt they are to interested in firearms but I dont want them to be like my wife and not be comfortable around them.  There may be a time in their life they need them.  Plus since I am not going to have boys I have to try my best to create a hunting buddy.

I dont know if you (fors) missed my statement about guns being in the wrong hand but I will restate my opinion.  Criminals are criminals and more times then not will continue being criminals.  If they comment crimes and continue to comment crimes then why let them out of prison.  I know tax payers dont want to pay for them and give them free health care, food, ect..  But we give these people most of that when they are released anyway.  I would suggest that most people who committ crimes with guns are not first time offenders.  If you want to get tough on gun, get tough on crime in general.  We give to many second chances that are really 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th chances.  That is the problem.

I dont think anyone has that right now as Alz has pointed out.

I was elbaorating about an earlier post in which I referenced Ted Nugent. I was watching one of those "Behind the Music" shows about him a few years ago and the interviewer asked him if he had a permit for his guns. His reply was that his permit was the Second Amendment.

I wouldnt put to much value in what he says.

Um, like I was saying.

True that. "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" was a Top 5 record in Jakarta.
