I like teacher in general but in high school I had a teacher that used his classroom a couple times as a platform to speak about how undervauled teacher are. To this day I can stand much of that talk.
if society's priorities were in order, teaching would be one of the highest-paid professions there is. is there anything nobler than teaching kids how to read and write? but too many of them are in it for the wrong reasons, and some of them stay too long.

You pay people for their knowledge. I dont value the skill set of second grade math.

That's being a bit simplistic. You may not value second graders being able to do math right now, but if there were a shortage of engineers because we no longer considered it important to educate our population, society would be in a free fall.

I didnt say that it isnt important. I just dont think it is so hard that the person doing it should be rewarded as one of the "highest-paid profession" as Artie said.

i'm saying that teachers are far more important than professional baseball players or movie actors, who are proportionately paid absurd amounts of dough for relatively minor roles in society.
but ideas like that are why no one will ever vote for me for king.

reminds me of that line bobby knight used to say about journalists: 'we all learn how to write when we're six, but most of us move on to more complicated things."

Again, I am not saying they are unimportant but they dont have it that bad. There are alot of people trying to become teachers. I assume it isnt to help people or some other BS line. It must not be a bad gig.

Everything is relative AP. As much as I hate youth sports because of dealing with the parents, education is a 1000 times worse.
If little Ellie can't read by 3rd grade, it's the teachers fault. Never mind that Dad's drunk every night and Mom can't be bothered to help Ellie with her homework during Dr. Oz or Real Housewives. It's still the teacher's fault. Don't even think about giving a kid a bad grade. It's as much a mark against you as it is for them.
And don't think of disciplining a kid who causes trouble. Send a kid to the principal's office--you must have failed. Send a note home to the parents--why are you bothering them with a problem you're supposed to handle.
And if you work with older students you might as well change your title to victim. It's almost a matter of time before one of the kids smacks or punchs you. Don't even think about defending yourself because as soon as you do, one of their friends will post that half of the altercation on YouTube and you'll be fired and sued.
I'm not suggesting it's rocket science, but it's probably a more thankless job than being a cop. It's at least pretty darn close.

I dont expect to be thanked. In fact if someone thanks me I likely just fucked up. I figure I deal with shitbags for a decent retirement and to once in a while have alittle bit of fun. The politics cant be to much worst for teachers and they get twice the pay and twice the time off. I am not trying to degrade them. However if you dont like what you do them find something else. There are plenty of people able and willing to take your place. Overall I think they have it about right. I never have and still dont like the pity party they have for themselfs. For god shakes if I had the right mind I would have been a PE or Drivers Ed teacher.
